Top 10 Taylor Swift Songs

Buongiorno, how are we all today?
I know what you're thinking, hang about now Scott this can't be serious can it? It's true, I like more than one genre of music and yes this is a list about Swifty herself and yes i am unashamed to admit I do like her music and here's hoping I won't be killed for giving my opinion of my fave 10 songs by Taylor and for making and publishing this list here. (fingers crossed) :)

10: The Story Of Us
Kicking off the list is this sweet soft gem. Swift said that she came up with this song following an encounter with an ex at an awards show, at the event, the two attempted to ignore each other, which inspired Swift to compose the song. Swift shine's a lot more when she incorporates her country roots I feel and this is a nice example of it here.

9: We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
I know what a weird contrast between 10 and 9 but hey this is one I know well from it being all over the radio and music channels and charts overall and hey it's catchy and it's always stuck in my head when thinking of Swift. It's the lead single launched from her Red album and tell's the tale of an ex lover of hers trying to re-kindle their past love but of course it does not work out like that. The song received a Grammy Award nomination for Record of the Year. It also received a People's Choice Awards nomination for Favourite Song of the Year back in 2012.

A beautiful song here, I always forget about this one and it's only when I have had a heavy Taylor spotify binge lately to come up with this list to remind myself that i know this one from years ago and that it was beautiful then and still is now. Taylor explained to MTV News: "This song is basically about wanting someone who is with this girl who doesn't appreciate him at all. Basically like 'girl-next-door-itis.' You like this guy who you have for your whole life, and you know him better than she does but somehow the popular girl gets the guy every time."

7: Shake It Off
Catchy beat and catchy pop lyrics this song is infectious no matter how many times you have heard it you will still love and sing it's chorus come on admit it haha. The song won Favourite Song at the 2015 People's Choice Awards, and also received nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 2015 Grammy Awards. According to Billboard, it is Swift's biggest Hot 100 hit to date, staying on the chart for 50 consecutive weeks. Taylor talks about how you should more or less shake off that negativity in your life with this track. She wants us to know that she's cool being the only one dancing at the award show, and she doesn't care if anyone makes fun of her, because she knows she's awkward and wants to own it. She's just gonna bake, bake, bake, bake, bake and she's gonna do her and you should do you.

6: Blank Space
A song where Taylor embraces the media's portrayal of her love life and turns it on its head basically and she's been quoted as to saying the song has a lot of satire in it. It's one of Tay's catchy songs and that's pretty much why I like it and have inserted it here, it's one i have heard quite a bit and i still like because it's got a chill beat and is catchy to boot.

5: Enchanted
Taylor said this about the song; "I wrote "Enchanted" about a guy who I was enchanted to meet, obviously. He was somebody that I had talked to a couple of times on email, and then I was in New York and went to meet him. I remember just the whole way home thinking, "I hope he's not in love with somebody." It was just wonderful, that feeling. Like, "Oh my gosh. Who's he with? Does he like me? Does he like somebody else? What does it mean?" I got home and he had emailed me and said something like, "Sorry I was so quiet. I was just wonderstruck meeting you." And so I incorporated the word wonderstruck, into the song as a, "Hey this one's sorta for you." The song is about Adam Young. Apparently he sang the song back to her, adding her name to it and a few minor changes and here we are.

4: I Knew You Were Trouble
A meme made this even more famous and she apparently loves the meme but anyhoo, this one is about a relationship that she predicted is destined for failure but she goes for it anyway. It's a mixture of country pop and dubstep it's quite a unique sound and it's one that I have heard many times since it's release and still like pretty much.

3: Style
This one is often said to be about Harry Styles and sure I see that but it's more so just about a relationship that is in trouble. No matter how often the two fail to form a strong relationship, they continue to be "perfect for each other" in both of their imaginations. Based on their own preferences in the opposite gender, Swift believes they are perfectly matched; they like each other's "style" and they look good/work well together. Taylor has been quoted as saying this is her "secret fave" track on the 1989 album too.

Now this is a total hype track. Another 1989 track which proves 1989 is one of Taylor's best albums to date am i right? Taylor has explained that the song is about "the fragility and breakable nature of some relationships. This was a relationship where I was kind of living day-to-day wondering where it was going, if it was going to go anywhere, if it was going to end the next day." I have grown to like and appreciate this song so much lately.

1: Love Story
This is/was the first song I had ever heard from Taylor going back in time now to its music video release in 2008. The song is basically the tale of Romeo and Juliet but re-imagined with a happy ending and it's also told from the perspective of Juliet. The song and Taylor received great praise by critics and the general population in general and this is what basically got her off the ground and into the famed golden spotlight she struts in today. It was also a commercial success, selling over 8 million copies worldwide, therefore establishing itself among the best-selling singles of all time. It's a sweet song that always pops to mind when Taylor is mentioned I liked her country roots and I would like her to try and do something like that again in future but who knows what will happen but I definitely have a feeling that she'll be back with a new album sometime soon. :)

Time for some honourable mentions: Our song, Gorgeous, Dress, Delicate, Getaway Car, 22, Picture To Burn, Mary's Song, Welcome To New York, How You Get The Girl, New Romantics, Dancing With Our Hands Tied, Starlight, Back To December, Never Grow Up, Haunted, Long Live.

So that's my list here and I hope that you liked this change in posting of your regular material that you have been so used to here and i do want to bring new content and try to appeal to a wider audience aswell as satisfying my current audience or to bring them something new.

Either way I appreciate you viewing, reading, liking, commenting and sharing all my posts.

Have a lovely day and remember to stay shiny!

Top 10 Queen Songs (Plus Bohemian Rhapsody Film Review!)

How in the hell have I not done a list on Queen?
I thought I had but I could not find one.

I recently seen the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and i thought it was brilliant and i wanted more because the film could not fit everything in of course it fitted in mostly the highs and lows of Queen and Freddie leading up to Live Aid basically and overall i'd give it a 8/10.

Anyway, Queen are one of my all time fave bands perhaps my all time fave guitarist is Brian May and vocalist is Freddie Mercury. I got into the band at a young age from my Dad as he is a big queen fan.
While this list will list the one's i love best and any interesting facts or maybe the meaning behind the songs I will do my best to bring something interesting to you aswell as the songs in question.

10: Don't Stop Me Now - Kicking off the list is this momentum bringer. It’s high energy and the singsong element of, “Don’t stop me now” is so catchy it’s almost impossible not to bob your head to it. It feels like the song races along, and Mercury races along, but it never gets going too fast. Most common interpretation of this song is about life and sex and the lyrics go to show that and that it's all about having a good time.

9: I Want To Break Free - Of course first time I seen the music video as a kid i found it weird and funny and the song was catchy and damn awesome. I suppose the song is about being yourself breaking free from your shackles that keep you down and enabling you to break free and how you are expressing how you want to break free at that.

8: You're My Best Friend - Alright so this list was hard to put together because i love Queen and they have so  many amazing songs. Deacon wrote this beautiful song for his new wife, but it’s Mercury’s voice that makes it so resonant. It’s a perfect match of material and performer. It’s a wonderfully bright pop rock song. It's a really loving uplifting song both lyrically and musically.

7: Killer Queen - Freddie went on record to say this is about a high society call girl. This is a song with the words “gunpowder, gelatine, dynamite with a laser beam” in the chorus. Mercury’s sonorous, high-pitched voice sells it all, though.

6: We Will Rock You - If you only know one Queen song (and the odds are very low you only know one Queen song), it’s probably “We Will Rock You.” Just two minutes long, it’s mostly all “boom, boom, clap” with a few May guitar licks thrown in. However, that simple beat is so insanely catchy that the song has become legend.

5: Under Pressure - This is a song that has both Freddie Mercury and David Bowie on it. How could it fail to be anything other than great? We are all under pressure but we must give love to each other to help one another out and release our pressures.

4: Another One Bites The Dust - Catchy and damn funky and that bass line is top notch! I see the song as being about this Steve who is on a rampage. Simply straight forward.

3: Radio Gaga - A song who's message displays how we don't focus on the music anymore we just rather view their videos. Catchy song about man vs machine more or less but another fact Lady Gaga got her name from this song because it's one of her faves.

2: We Are The Champions - This is one of Queen’s two unbeatable sports anthems, although “We Are the Champions” can only be used in pretty specific situations. While it leans itself to sports so well, “We Are the Champions” is just a song of triumph that should get you amped regardless of the circumstances. Funnily, it’s partially a ballad, but then the chorus swells and you feel like you can run through a wall. That’s the power of music. That’s the power of Mercury’s voice.

1: Bohemian Rhapsody - Oh i'm sorry did you expect a different number one? It's difficult to analyse a song who's writer refused to analyse it himself. The band doesn't even know the true meaning, to this day. It is claimed to be just a tongue in cheek mock opera- just for fun. There are countless theories and people said this song sucks, it wont be a hit, it's too long, too pretentious, etc etc but look at the impact the song had and still has to this day it's one of the most iconic and influential songs in all of music history.

Go see Bohemian Rhapsody and let me know your thoughts on it and on this list! :)

Stay a killer queen!

Top 10 Song's That Make Me Cry! (I cri evrytim)

Alri? Been a while since I did a top 10 i know but whilst I was talking to my good friend James Davie on skype the other night he asked me what song's make me cry so I named a few and then I thought what if i make a top 10 list of this? So I challenged myself to do it and here it is! I hope you enjoy and hope you feel something to these songs as I do. CLICK ON THE NUMBERS TO LISTEN TO THE SONGS!

ONE SONG PER BAND.
I'll post the meaning of the song if I can think of one or if I can find one online.

There could only be one Disturbed song on my list sadly as I put in the rules mentioned above. This one from the first time I heard it had tears streaming down my face. David wrote this song as an expression of how he felt when he lost his Grandfather and his journey to cope with his loss.

Part 1 sounds like a general creep/stalker singing to himself about a girl he likes it has a dirty just gritty take music wise HOWEVER, Part 2 is not that part 2 is a beautifully structured track. The differences (between the two tracks) are subtle – 'Vermilion, Pt. 1' is about the enrapturing, the buildup, the anticipation and the neurosis," says Taylor. "'Part 2' is the aftermath, the pieces that have to be picked up later, and maybe the guilt of having lived through it.". Both songs are said to be about lost or unrequited love from a possibly suicidal person's perspective.

Simply put it's an emotionally painful song clearly about a breakup. In the video the boy is completely black and the girl is completely white. I think this is to prove that they are so opposite they can't make it work. And one of them realises this. Then at the end the girl cries a black tear because she wishes they could be together and she wants to be more like him but who know's the true story behind the song I have not found anything besides other's who think like me over the song being a break up song.

I like this cover much more than the original by Lynyrd Skynyrd because I find Shinedown's cover to be much more powerful and emotional. The first version of this I heard was the live version Shinedown did in 2009 I believe which they said before they started to play that it goes out to their friend Dimebag Darrell so that hit me because I am a big Pantera fan and I love Dime. It's one that hits me right in the feels.

Although it's not a sad song, it's one which I find is powerful musically, lyrically and emotionally. If I have not heard this in a while I do tear up and cry. Jared Leto explained to Musicradar.com that this song very nearly didn't make the album. He said: "Actually, we were going to throw this song out, but we decided to keep it. It was hard to mix, a total pain in ass, but I'm glad it made the record because I think it fits in with the overall framework of the album. The song is a mission, an adventure that takes you on a journey. Maybe that's why it gave us so much trouble: We had go on an adventure as a band to get it right. Some songs come very easily and other ones fight you. Oftentimes, the ones that give you trouble turn out to be the best ones - this is an example of the latter."

This is a powerful song sometimes it does not get me I admit but when I sit there and think and listen to the lyrics it always does get me. Life for sure isn't easy or simple. So whether it means moving on in life or moving on through death, it's important for us to know that this is life, and if it hasn't happened to you already, it will and that's what I think this song is about and represents.

Powerful and raw is this tune! I think of my parents and family when i hear this... because it seems like I'm never good enough for any of them... no matter how hard I try. I think this song overall is all about a guy telling his family that he is sorry for everything that happened, but he also can't forgive them for what they did to him. He wishes that things didn't happen the way they did, and asks if they could start over, would anything change? He is vividly telling the listener that abuse is real, and instead of ignoring it, one should talk about it and try to bring peace to all who were involved. It's a very powerful song, and can not go unnoticed.

Zzyzx Rd. is a love song written to Taylor's wife for helping him in his struggles against alcoholism and contemplation of suicide and omg is it a beautiful and emotional track that gets me choked up every time.

This one since the first time I ever heard it always makes me cry and think of my grandfather. According to lead singer Issac Slade the song was composed and influenced by his experience while working as a mentor at a camp for troubled teens: He was asked about it in an interview and this is what he said “One of the youngsters I was paired up with was a musician. Here I was, a protected suburbanite, and he was just 17 and had all these problems. And no one could write a manual on how to save him.” Slade also says that all the people who tried to help the kid were unsuccessful. And that is what the song is about. As Slade says in an interview, the boy's friends and family approached him by saying, "Quit taking drugs and cutting yourself or I won't talk to you again," but all he needed was some support. The boy was losing friends and going through depression. He lost his best friend and could not deal with it.

Every single time this plays the tears come streaming down my face it's unbelievable how powerful and emotional this song is. This Song Is About Amy Lee Who Lost Her Sister At A Young Age also so I'm not sure what is sadder the song or the meaning behind the song. It's my number one what else is there to say about this.

BONUS: Brick By Boring Brick - Paramore, Jet City Woman - Queensryche & Everlong - Foo Fighters (These makes me sad time to time because of an ex gf and yes I know how pathetic of me to say such a thing.)

ANOTHER BONUS: Through Glass - Stonesour & Disturbed - Sound of silence.

So that's all sorry for such a depressing, emotional list today but it's good to cry every now and then. Good for our eyes and good for the soul. Thanks for reading :)

Top 10 00's Songs

So here is the second decade i have lived through and the final list on Top 10 Decade songs.

The 2000's a lot went on. 9/11, Y2K fails, Metallica faught Napster, Sasha Baron Cohen became a global star, Little Britain and the rise of Lucas and Walliams as global stars, Youtube was born, Dr.Who returned, Guitar Hero was launched, Katrina wrecked homes, Top Of The Pops finished, Pavirotti died, Michael Jackson died, Facebook launched so did twitter and bunch of other social media sites, London bombings, the xmas tsunami, the Zidane headbutt, Pluto no longer becomes a planet, Saddam executed, Britney shaves her head, Jade Goody controversy, Iphone launches, Smoking ban kicks off, Large Hadron Collider starts, We get our first black president and that's about all i can think of in the history of the world besides my own news and firsts like starting secondary school and joining youtube and social media.

2000-2009 is the song limit of this list. One song per band or artist. Any genre's are allowed. I will be picking songs i like and have memories with. This list is not definitive i change my order of fave songs all the time.

10) Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag - "Teenage Dirtbag" is a song and debut single by American pop rock group Wheatus. It was released in July 2000 as the lead single from their eponymous debut album. The song was written by lead singer Brendan B. Brown and was inspired by a childhood experience of his and it got platinum in the UK. This song is a classic and so darn catchy just the tune of it makes me sing it. "Her name is Noelle, I have a dream about her she rings my bell" and so on because i'm just a teenage dirtbag baby so will you come with me Friday and don't say maybe to see Iron Maiden? I would!

9) Avril Lavigne - Sk8er Boi - I was a boy and she was a girl could i make this any more obvious because i did have a crush on Avril for many years....what? Don't give me that look. The song is a power pop and pop punk track, which lyrically, tells a story told from the singer's viewpoint about her rocker boyfriend and a girl he knew in high school who rejected him because he was a skateboarder and she was a snob. The song received critical appreciation, with most commending its hook, calling the song "funny" and "clever". It also received a Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance at the 2003 edition. Commercially, "Sk8er Boi" was a success.

8) Bowling For Soup - Girl All The Bad Guy's Want - 8 o Clock Monday night and i'm writing about a song about a girl all the bad guy's want who wears a two-way....interesting. "Girl All the Bad Guys Want" is a single by American rock band Bowling for Soup, from their 2002 album, Drunk Enough to Dance. The song reached #8 on the UK Singles Chart and #64 on the US Hot 100, and was nominated for a 2003 Grammy Award for "Best Pop Performance by a Group or Duo". The song came after a dry spell for the band and was followed by the popular album A Hangover You Don't Deserve, leading frontman Jaret Reddick to refer to it as "the career-saving song" on MTV.

7) Fountains Of Wayne - Stacy's Mom - I always wondered what Stacy's mom had going on until i seen the video and then i wanted her mom too, oh god what's going on here? This song funny enough some think the previous entry band wrote it and they cover it at concerts for shits and giggles. Its subject matter was inspired by a friend of Schlesinger's when he was young who had a crush on his grandmother. A power pop song, the group hoped to emulate the sound of the Cars with the track. So Stacy's Grandmom makes the song disturbing now. The song was accompanied with a music video in which model Rachel Hunter plays the titular role. "Stacy's Mom" was the only mainstream hit by Fountains of Wayne. So now we know who the "Mom" in the video is i guess you all can do your incognito thing. ;)

6) Busted - Year 3000 - This classic tune though it's just that....class! The song makes references to the Back to the Future trilogy, including lines about the flux capacitor and the fact that the time machine mentioned is "like the one in a film I've seen"."Year 3000" reached number two on the UK Singles Chart and became the 34th biggest seller of the year with 165,000 units. The single was also a success in Europe, reaching number two on the Irish Singles Chart, while reaching the Top 10 in Belgium and the Netherlands.

5) Usher - Yeah! - This platinum foot mover is at number 5, the beat gets me going 60% of the time everytime. "Yeah" won a Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 47th Grammy Awards, while being nominated for Record of the Year.

4) Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love? - There's always going to be a soft spot in my heart for this true tune. It was released in June 2003 as the lead single from their third album, Elephunk. The song was written by will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo, Justin Timberlake, Printz Board, Michael Fratantuno and George Pajon. The track features vocals from Timberlake, although he is not officially credited on the single release. It was the band's first song to feature singer Fergie as an official member. The remake of the song was shell less it lacked life and dedication and raw realness within it.

3) Eminem - Lose Yourself - Before Mom's Spaghetti covered our faces from memes this one was an instant classic from the moment of it's release, i thought it was anyway because i loved it and everyone i know loved it and still loves it. "Lose Yourself" received acclaim from music critics, with many critics praising the song's aggressive themes and describing it as Eminem's best work to date. Eminem's rapping ability, the lyrics and the production were also praised. In many retrospective reviews and lists, critics have cited the song among Eminem's finest, as well as one of the best hip hop songs of all time. "Lose Yourself" was a commercial success, peaking atop of the charts in eighteen countries, including the United Kingdom and Australia. In the United States, "Lose Yourself" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first of five Eminem singles to top the Hot 100.  "Lose Yourself" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2003, making it the first ever rap song to have received this accolade, and also won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Solo Performance in 2004. In 2004, it was one of only three hip hop songs from the 21st century to have been included on Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time", and was also the highest ranking, at number 166. Rolling Stone also ranked it one of the top 50 hip hop songs of all time. The song was certified quintuple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and as of October 2015, it has 6.7 million downloads in the United States alone. It was ranked number 93 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs list. In October 2011, NME placed it at number 57 on its list "150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years".

2) Evanescence - Bring Me To Life - An overplayed song these day's but still a beautiful classic track. The track was written by group members Amy Lee, Ben Moody, and David Hodges and produced by Dave Fortman. It also features uncredited guest vocals from Paul McCoy of the band 12 Stones. "Bring Me to Life" is a nu metal, gothic metal and rap rock song. According to Lee, "Bring Me to Life" has several meanings and inspirations; its subjects are an incident in a restaurant, open-mindedness, and waking up to the things which are missing in the protagonist's life. Lee later revealed that the song was inspired by her long-time friend and husband Josh Hartzler. Critical response to the song was mostly positive, with critics praising the melody of the song, Lee's vocals and their accompaniment by McCoy. Following the inclusion of "Bring Me to Life" on the Daredevil soundtrack the song became a commercial and critical success.

1) Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood - Number one is this classic it's such a great addictive catchy fun song. "Clint Eastwood" is a song by British virtual band Gorillaz, released as the first single from their self-titled debut album in March 2001. The song is named after the actor of the same name due to its similarity to the theme music of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The song is a mix of electronic music, dub, hip hop and rock. The verses are rapped by Del the Funky Homosapien, portrayed as a blue phantom in the video, while the chorus is sung by Damon Albarn (2D in the video). It peaked at number four on the UK Singles Chart and number 57 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The single has sold 480,000 copies in the UK according to the Official Charts Company. Rolling Stone ranked it number 38 on its 100 best songs of the 2000s. In October 2011, NME placed it at number 141 on its list "150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years". The magazine also ranked it at number 347 on their list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

It's been a fun but hard list to compile but i hope you have enjoyed this list and all the songs featured. If you have a suggestion for a list do let me know.

That's all from me, have a shiny day!

Top 10 90's Songs

So here is the first decade i lived through in the second of three decade top 10 list of my favourite songs.

What happened in the 90's? Beside the obviousness of my birth, Spice Girls took over the world (sadly they just missed out on my list even though i was a spice boy back in the day), Titanic film released, many great gaming consoles emerged!, the macarena, the lion was king in the lion king, Mandela was free, a gulf war, OJ trial, Diana died, Harry Potter came out and i am sure i am forgetting more but this will do for now!
1990-1999 is the song limit of this list. One song per band or artist. Any genre's are allowed. I will be picking songs i like and have memories with. This list is not definitive i change my order of fave songs all the time.

10) Foo Fighters - Learn To Fly - My first time hearing Foo Fighters was with this song and it's one of my faves of theirs, comedic video and catchy great tune to boot. The music video for the song was directed by Jesse Peretz and won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video. The music video features the Foo and Tenacious D and it's a parody of Airplane basically so what could go wrong?

9) Backstreet Boys - Everybody - ALRIGHT! Yes i did enjoy Backstreet Boys back in the day they had some bangers, just because metal is in the blog does not mean everything here is going to be metal and its a tune so stop giving me the people's eyebrow! Zomba chairman Clive Calder suggested the song as a single, but Jive president Barry Weiss thought it would be weird to have a song called "Backstreet's Back" on the band's first US album. The band suggested it could just mean that they were back home. After Canadian markets began playing the song, US markets near the border began picking the song up. The band met with Weiss and asked that the song be added to the US album after the first million units had already been produced. Written and produced by Max Martin and Denniz PoP, "Everybody" is one of the Backstreet Boys' most successful singles to date, reaching #4 in the US Billboard Hot 100, running 22 weeks, and #3 in the UK Singles Chart. It is certified platinum in the United States with 2.1 million sales. There are two versions of the song. The international album features the album or 7" version, which is the standard recording. The US album features the extended version of the song which includes an extended breakdown section, but cuts the bridge. The music video for the song was cut to both versions of the song, with the extended video released to the US market, and the standard video released everywhere else.

8) Ricky Martin - Livin Da Vida Loca - I used to utterly love this song and i will say it's still a classic, great catchy tune. It was released on March 23, 1999 from Martin's self-titled debut English album (he had previously released several albums in Spanish). The song was composed by Desmond Child and Draco Rosa and topped the charts during 1999. La vida loca is Spanish for "the crazy life." "Livin' la Vida Loca" is generally seen as the song that began the Latin pop explosion of 1999 and made the transition of other Spanish-speaking artists (first Enrique Iglesias and Marc Anthony and then later Shakira, Thalía, and Paulina Rubio) into the English-speaking market easier. "Livin' la Vida Loca" sold over 8 million copies, making it one of the best selling singles of all time. The song received various Grammy Awards nominations and Ricky Martin obtain enormous success inside the United States and worldwide. In 2007, the song was ranked at number 28 on the list of 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's by VH1. It is Martin's signature song and still maintains a cult following.

7) Blink 182 - What's My Age Again? - Now there will be people like "OMG Y NOT ALL THE SMALL THINGS?!" The answer to that is i consider it overplayed garbage and i can't stand it so i will not include it and this might sound petty to you but i love this track and I miss you more from Blink and that's it then. It was released in April 1999 as the lead single from the group's third studio album, Enema of the State (1999). The song, written primarily by bassist and vocalist Mark Hoppus, lyrically revolves around the onset of age and maturity, and the failure to implement changes in behavior. A mid-tempo pop punk song, it was written by Hoppus based on personal experience. It was originally titled "Peter Pan Complex", an allusion to the pop-psychology concept, but MCA Records forced the band to retitle the song, as the label found it too obscure a reference. It was the first Blink-182 single to feature drummer Travis Barker. It became Blink-182’s second hit single, peaking at number two on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart for ten weeks. The song hit number three in Italy and number 17 in the United Kingdom. Primarily an airplay hit, the song was the band's first to cross over to pop radio, hitting number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song's signature music video famously features the band running nude on the streets of Los Angeles. It received heavy rotation on MTV and other music video channels. As a result of this exposure, it gave the band an unwanted reputation for nudity, which would lead them to take more creative control of the group's image later in its career. The song received positive reviews and has been called a classic pop punk track; NME placed it at number 117 on its list "150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years" in 2012.

6) Aqua - Barbie Girl - Ah what a tune, i use to sing and dance to this as a kid and listen to it on cassette and shhheeet let me just brush my hair. "Barbie Girl" is a song by the Danish-Norwegian dance-pop group Aqua. It was released in May 1997 as their third single overall, and the first United Kingdom release, it is included on the album Aquarium. It was written after Rasted saw an exhibit on kitsch culture in Denmark which featured Barbie dolls. The song topped the charts worldwide, particularly in European countries such as the UK, where it was a number-one hit for three weeks. It was also on top of the charts in Australia for the same length of time, and debuted and peaked at No. 7 on the US Billboard Hot 100 on 6 September 1997 and it remains Aqua's biggest hit single in the US to date, and their only one to reach the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100. It is Aqua's most popular work. The song became the subject of the controversial lawsuit Mattel v. MCA Records.

5) Puff Daddy - I'll Be Missing You - Just when you think an original you love could not be topped....it can because this mix is utterly incredible i still love it. "I'll Be Missing You" is a song recorded by American rapper Puff Daddy and American singer Faith Evans, featuring R&B group 112, in memory of fellow Bad Boy Records artist Christopher "The Notorious B.I.G." Wallace, who was murdered on March 9, 1997. Released as the second single from Puff Daddy and the Family's No Way Out album, "I'll Be Missing You" samples The Police's 1983 hit song "Every Breath You Take", with an interpolated chorus sung by Evans. The track also features a spoken intro over a choral version of Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings". In 1998, the song won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. The single spent 11 weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 during the summer of 1997. With worldwide sales likely over 8 million, including shipments of 3 million copies in the United States and over 1 million in both Germany and the United Kingdom, the song has become one of the best-selling singles of all time. As of February 2016, it is rated the 99th biggest song of all time in the US, according to Billboard.

4) Steps - Tragedy - I know this one very well even the moves and now i cringe as i admitted that urgh please dont ask me to perform it for you hahaha. The video for "Tragedy", originally a hit by the Bee Gees, contained the dance step of putting both hands parallel to the sides of the head in time with the word 'Tragedy', which became a trademark of the group. The single hit the number one spot in the UK Singles Chart after eight weeks on that chart.

3) Eiffel 65 - Blue - YO LISTEN UP! Catchy as hell and a classic smash hit what's more to be said other than im a de ima die....or however you spell that bit....i'm blue ok! "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" is a song by the Italian music group Eiffel 65. It was released on 15 January 1999 as the lead single from their debut album Europop. The song is the group's most popular single, reaching number one in many countries such as Ireland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Switzerland, New Zealand, Finland, Norway, Australia, and Germany, as well as reaching number six on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. In the United Kingdom, the song originally entered the top 40 purely on import sales. It was only the third single to do this. The song also received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Dance Recording at the 2001 Grammy Awards.

2) Vengaboys - Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom - A song that as a child you think of nothing other than it being catchy and fun but when you become an adult and listen back OH BOY is this sexual ahaha. "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!" is a song by the Dutch Eurodance group Vengaboys. It was released in June 1999 and re-released in June 2017 as a single. It reached number one on the UK Singles Chart on 21 June 1999.

1) Haddaway - What Is Love - A classic a cult classic a pop culture monster track that still kicks butt for its catchy infectious tones today! "What Is Love" is a song recorded by Trinidadian-German Eurodance artist Haddaway for his debut album, The Album. It was written and produced by Dee Dee Halligan (Dieter Lünstedt a.k.a. Tony Hendrik) and Junior Torello (Karin Hartmann-Eisenblätter a.k.a. Karin van Haaren) of Coconut Records in Cologne. The song is recognizable by its refrain "What is love? Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me...no more." "What Is Love" peaked at number two in the United Kingdom and Germany and hit number one in 13 other countries. Debuting at number 87 on 28 August 1993, the song reached number 11 on the Hot 100 in the United States. The song also peaked at number 12 in Australia. By March 1994, worldwide sales of "What Is Love" had already reached 2.6 million.

It's been a fun but hard list to compile but i hope you have enjoyed this list and all the songs featured. If you have a suggestion for a list do let me know.

That's all from me, have a shiny day!

Top 10 80's Songs

The first in a three part decades list of some of my favourite songs from three different era's. Even though i was not born in the 80's i really appreciate the music from that decade and all that decade has done for films, tv,music and all other media's moving forward to today.

What went down in the groovy 80's? Mt St Helen's erupted, a dingo took a baby, Lennon dies, Pac Man was born, mtv was born, do they know it's Christmas was released, titanic wreck discovered, Chernobyl reactor explosion, Simpsons debut, bye Berlin wall, we had so many great movies, TV shows and music and i will leave it there.

1980-1989 is the song limit for this list. One song per band or artist. Any genre's are allowed. I will be picking songs i like and have memories with. This list is not definitive i change my order of fave songs all the time.

10) The Bangels - Walk Like An Egyptian - Kicking off my list we must go further back in time to ancient Egypt to walk like an Egyptian. This is very fun and catchy and i remember doing the dance and whistling along to this song many times as a kid and i still do it every now and then today. It was a million-selling single and became Billboard's number-one song of 1987. Music producer Liam Sternberg wrote the song after seeing people on a ferry walking awkwardly to keep their balance. Their poses reminded him of figures in some Ancient Egyptian paintings.

9) Cyndi Lauper - Girl's Just Want To Have Fun - A lot of songs on my lists are guilty pleasure ones i enjoy them as i heard them as a kid and they were fun and catchy and just lively so yeah i enjoy this. It was the first major single released by Lauper as a solo artist and the lead single from her debut studio album She's So Unusual (1983). Lauper’s version gained recognition as a feminist anthem and was promoted by a Grammy-winning music video. It has been covered, either as a studio recording or in a live performance, by over 30 other artists. The single was Lauper's breakthrough hit, reaching number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and becoming a worldwide hit throughout late 1983 and early 1984. It remains one of Lauper's signature songs and was a widely popular song during the era of its release, the 1980s. The "Rolling Stone & MTV: '100 Greatest Pop Songs': 1-50", "Rolling Stone: "The 100 Top Music Videos"" and the "VH1: 100 Greatest Videos" lists ranked the song at No. 22, No. 39 and No. 45, respectively. The song was written by Robert Hazard, who recorded only a demo of it in 1979. He wrote it from a male point of view which was later changed by Lauper.

8) Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al - This hit is a smash and a favourite of mine and many of my friends. Written by Simon, its lyrics follow an individual seemingly experiencing a midlife crisis. Its lyrics were partially inspired by Simon's trip to South Africa and experience with its culture. Released in September 1986, "You Can Call Me Al" became Simon's biggest solo hit, reaching the top five in seven countries. The names in the song came from an incident at a party that Simon went to with his then-wife Peggy Harper. French composer and conductor Pierre Boulez, who was attending the same party, mistakenly referred to Paul as "Al" and to Peggy as "Betty", inspiring Simon to write a song.

7) Matthew Wilder - Break My Stride - This song makes me feel so happy it's a cheery confidence boosting track i feel and catchy and just great. Included on his 1983 album, I Don't Speak the Language, the single went to number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number four in the UK in January/February 1984. On the US Cash Box chart, Wilder's single reached the number two position, where it remained for two weeks in early February. A remix version reached the top 20 on the dance chart, and the song additionally hit the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart, staying there for four weeks. Though "Break My Stride" was Matthew Wilder's only UK hit, he also reached the US pop chart with his next two singles, "The Kid's American" (#33) and "Bouncing Off the Walls" (#52), before turning to behind-the-scenes work on other artists' recordings.

6) The B-52's - Love Shack - Released in 1989 from their album Cosmic Thing, the single was the band's biggest hit song and first million-copy seller. The song's inspiration was "a cabin around Athens, Georgia", complete with tin roof, where the band conceived "Rock Lobster", a single from their first album; it is often said to have been located off "the Atlanta Highway", as the first verse implies. B-52's singer Kate Pierson lived in the cabin in the 1970s, and the cabin existed until 2004, when it burned down. "Tin roof...rusted," wailed by lead singer Cindy Wilson, was originally an outtake added to the track, and is perhaps the song's most memorable line. Fred Schneider also provides some memorable lines, including his notable boast of having "a Chrysler as big as a whale" and "seats about twenty". It has come to mean many things to different listeners.

5) Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up - NO YOU HAVE NOT BEEN RICK ROLL'D! It's a great classic track that never gives you up. The song was a worldwide number-one hit, initially in the singer's native United Kingdom in 1987, where it stayed at the top of the chart for five weeks and was the best-selling single of that year. It eventually topped the charts in 25 countries. The music video for the song has become the basis for the "Rickrolling" Internet meme. In 2008, Rick Astley won the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Act Ever with the song, as a result of collective voting from thousands of people on the internet, due to the popular phenomenon of Rickrolling. It was also featured as a downloadable track for the Rock Band series.

4) The Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star - I first heard this song on GTA Vice City and it got me hooked i love it. The track was recorded and mixed in 1979, released as their debut single on 7 September 1979 by Island Records, and included on their first album The Age of Plastic. The backing track was recorded at Virgin's Town House in West London, and mixing and vocal recording would later take place at Sarm East Studios. Like all the other tracks from the LP, "Video"'s theme was promotion of technology while worrying about its effects. This song relates to concerns about mixed attitudes towards 20th-century inventions and machines for the media arts. Musically, the song performs like an extended jingle and the composition plays in the key of D-flat major in common time at a tempo of 132 beats per minute. The track has been positively received, with reviewers praising its unusual musical pop elements. Although the song includes several common pop characteristics and six basic chords are used in its structure, Downes and writer Timothy Warner described the piece as musically complicated, due to its use of suspended and minor ninth chords for enhancement that gave the song a "slightly different feel." Commercially, "Video Killed the Radio Star" was also a success.

3) A-ha - Take On Me - An absolute classic! Thatt's all i can say besides do you want to do the Halo/Dark Souls dance? "Take On Me" is a song by Norwegian synthpop band A-ha. The self-composed original version was produced by Tony Mansfield, and remixed by John Ratcliff. The second version was produced by Alan Tarney for the group's debut studio album Hunting High and Low (1985). The song combines synthpop with a varied instrumentation that includes acoustic guitars, keyboards and drums. The original "Take On Me" was recorded in 1984 and it took two versions and three releases to finally chart in the United Kingdom, reaching number two on the UK Singles Chart in October 1985. In the United States in October 1985, the song became the only A-ha song to reach the top position of the Billboard Hot 100, due in no small part to the wide exposure on MTV of its innovative music video, directed by Steve Barron. The video features the band in a pencil-sketch animation method called rotoscoping, combined with live action. The video won six awards and was nominated for two others at the 1986 MTV Video Music Awards.

2) Men At Work - Down Under - Classic song just the tune of the bottles being hit let alone will trigger me to sing and grove to it. The early version of "Down Under" has a slightly different tempo and arrangement from the later Columbia release. The most well known version was then released on Columbia in October 1981 as the third single from their debut album Business as Usual (1981). The hit song went to number one in their home country of Australia in December 1981, and then topped the New Zealand charts in February 1982. Released in North America in mid-1982, the song topped the Canadian charts in October. In the United States, the song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 on 6 November 1982 at No. 79, and reached No. 1 in January 1983 where it spent four non-consecutive weeks. It eventually sold over two million copies in the US alone. Billboard ranked it at No. 4 for 1983. In the UK, the song topped the charts in January and February 1983, and is the only Men at Work song to make the UK top 20.

1) Micheal Jackson - Beat It - It was so hard to pick just one Jacko song and he just had to be on the list and here he is at number one with Beat It. I think this was the first song i ever heard from him and i was like "omg this is amazing!" and i was hooked and i heard thriller and billy jean and all his other classics that would be on this list too but i limit it for one artist/band for a good reason to make sure i have variety in the list. The song is also notable for its famous video, which featured Jackson bringing two gangs together through the power of music and dance. "Beat It" received the 1984 Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Male Rock Vocal Performance, as well as two American Music Awards. It was inducted into the Music Video Producers Hall of Fame. The single, along with its music video, helped propel Thriller into becoming the best-selling album of all time. The single was certified platinum in the United States in 1989. Rolling Stone placed "Beat It" on the 344th spot of its list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". The song was also ranked number 81 on Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time".

It's been a fun but hard list to compile but i hope you have enjoyed this list and all the songs featured. If you have a suggestion for a list do let me know.
