Top 10 90's Songs

So here is the first decade i lived through in the second of three decade top 10 list of my favourite songs. 

What happened in the 90's? Beside the obviousness of my birth, Spice Girls took over the world (sadly they just missed out on my list even though i was a spice boy back in the day), Titanic film released, many great gaming consoles emerged!, the macarena, the lion was king in the lion king, Mandela was free, a gulf war, OJ trial, Diana died, Harry Potter came out and i am sure i am forgetting more but this will do for now!

1990-1999 is the song limit of this list. One song per band or artist. Any genre's are allowed. I will be picking songs i like and have memories with. This list is not definitive i change my order of fave songs all the time. 

10) Foo Fighters - Learn To Fly - My first time hearing Foo Fighters was with this song and it's one of my faves of theirs, comedic video and catchy great tune to boot. The music video for the song was directed by Jesse Peretz and won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video. The music video features the Foo and Tenacious D and it's a parody of Airplane basically so what could go wrong?

9) Backstreet Boys - Everybody - ALRIGHT! Yes i did enjoy Backstreet Boys back in the day they had some bangers, just because metal is in the blog does not mean everything here is going to be metal and its a tune so stop giving me the people's eyebrow! Zomba chairman Clive Calder suggested the song as a single, but Jive president Barry Weiss thought it would be weird to have a song called "Backstreet's Back" on the band's first US album. The band suggested it could just mean that they were back home. After Canadian markets began playing the song, US markets near the border began picking the song up. The band met with Weiss and asked that the song be added to the US album after the first million units had already been produced. Written and produced by Max Martin and Denniz PoP, "Everybody" is one of the Backstreet Boys' most successful singles to date, reaching #4 in the US Billboard Hot 100, running 22 weeks, and #3 in the UK Singles Chart. It is certified platinum in the United States with 2.1 million sales. There are two versions of the song. The international album features the album or 7" version, which is the standard recording. The US album features the extended version of the song which includes an extended breakdown section, but cuts the bridge. The music video for the song was cut to both versions of the song, with the extended video released to the US market, and the standard video released everywhere else.

8) Ricky Martin - Livin Da Vida Loca - I used to utterly love this song and i will say it's still a classic, great catchy tune. It was released on March 23, 1999 from Martin's self-titled debut English album (he had previously released several albums in Spanish). The song was composed by Desmond Child and Draco Rosa and topped the charts during 1999. La vida loca is Spanish for "the crazy life." "Livin' la Vida Loca" is generally seen as the song that began the Latin pop explosion of 1999 and made the transition of other Spanish-speaking artists (first Enrique Iglesias and Marc Anthony and then later Shakira, Thalía, and Paulina Rubio) into the English-speaking market easier. "Livin' la Vida Loca" sold over 8 million copies, making it one of the best selling singles of all time. The song received various Grammy Awards nominations and Ricky Martin obtain enormous success inside the United States and worldwide. In 2007, the song was ranked at number 28 on the list of 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's by VH1. It is Martin's signature song and still maintains a cult following.

7) Blink 182 - What's My Age Again? - Now there will be people like "OMG Y NOT ALL THE SMALL THINGS?!" The answer to that is i consider it overplayed garbage and i can't stand it so i will not include it and this might sound petty to you but i love this track and I miss you more from Blink and that's it then. It was released in April 1999 as the lead single from the group's third studio album, Enema of the State (1999). The song, written primarily by bassist and vocalist Mark Hoppus, lyrically revolves around the onset of age and maturity, and the failure to implement changes in behavior. A mid-tempo pop punk song, it was written by Hoppus based on personal experience. It was originally titled "Peter Pan Complex", an allusion to the pop-psychology concept, but MCA Records forced the band to retitle the song, as the label found it too obscure a reference. It was the first Blink-182 single to feature drummer Travis Barker. It became Blink-182’s second hit single, peaking at number two on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart for ten weeks. The song hit number three in Italy and number 17 in the United Kingdom. Primarily an airplay hit, the song was the band's first to cross over to pop radio, hitting number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song's signature music video famously features the band running nude on the streets of Los Angeles. It received heavy rotation on MTV and other music video channels. As a result of this exposure, it gave the band an unwanted reputation for nudity, which would lead them to take more creative control of the group's image later in its career. The song received positive reviews and has been called a classic pop punk track; NME placed it at number 117 on its list "150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years" in 2012.

6) Aqua - Barbie Girl - Ah what a tune, i use to sing and dance to this as a kid and listen to it on cassette and shhheeet let me just brush my hair. "Barbie Girl" is a song by the Danish-Norwegian dance-pop group Aqua. It was released in May 1997 as their third single overall, and the first United Kingdom release, it is included on the album Aquarium. It was written after Rasted saw an exhibit on kitsch culture in Denmark which featured Barbie dolls. The song topped the charts worldwide, particularly in European countries such as the UK, where it was a number-one hit for three weeks. It was also on top of the charts in Australia for the same length of time, and debuted and peaked at No. 7 on the US Billboard Hot 100 on 6 September 1997 and it remains Aqua's biggest hit single in the US to date, and their only one to reach the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100. It is Aqua's most popular work. The song became the subject of the controversial lawsuit Mattel v. MCA Records.

5) Puff Daddy - I'll Be Missing You - Just when you think an original you love could not be topped....it can because this mix is utterly incredible i still love it. "I'll Be Missing You" is a song recorded by American rapper Puff Daddy and American singer Faith Evans, featuring R&B group 112, in memory of fellow Bad Boy Records artist Christopher "The Notorious B.I.G." Wallace, who was murdered on March 9, 1997. Released as the second single from Puff Daddy and the Family's No Way Out album, "I'll Be Missing You" samples The Police's 1983 hit song "Every Breath You Take", with an interpolated chorus sung by Evans. The track also features a spoken intro over a choral version of Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings". In 1998, the song won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. The single spent 11 weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 during the summer of 1997. With worldwide sales likely over 8 million, including shipments of 3 million copies in the United States and over 1 million in both Germany and the United Kingdom, the song has become one of the best-selling singles of all time. As of February 2016, it is rated the 99th biggest song of all time in the US, according to Billboard.

4) Steps - Tragedy - I know this one very well even the moves and now i cringe as i admitted that urgh please dont ask me to perform it for you hahaha. The video for "Tragedy", originally a hit by the Bee Gees, contained the dance step of putting both hands parallel to the sides of the head in time with the word 'Tragedy', which became a trademark of the group. The single hit the number one spot in the UK Singles Chart after eight weeks on that chart. 

3) Eiffel 65 - Blue - YO LISTEN UP! Catchy as hell and a classic smash hit what's more to be said other than im a de ima die....or however you spell that bit....i'm blue ok! "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" is a song by the Italian music group Eiffel 65. It was released on 15 January 1999 as the lead single from their debut album Europop. The song is the group's most popular single, reaching number one in many countries such as Ireland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Switzerland, New Zealand, Finland, Norway, Australia, and Germany, as well as reaching number six on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. In the United Kingdom, the song originally entered the top 40 purely on import sales. It was only the third single to do this. The song also received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Dance Recording at the 2001 Grammy Awards.

2) Vengaboys - Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom - A song that as a child you think of nothing other than it being catchy and fun but when you become an adult and listen back OH BOY is this sexual ahaha. "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!" is a song by the Dutch Eurodance group Vengaboys. It was released in June 1999 and re-released in June 2017 as a single. It reached number one on the UK Singles Chart on 21 June 1999.

1) Haddaway - What Is Love - A classic a cult classic a pop culture monster track that still kicks butt for its catchy infectious tones today! "What Is Love" is a song recorded by Trinidadian-German Eurodance artist Haddaway for his debut album, The Album. It was written and produced by Dee Dee Halligan (Dieter Lünstedt a.k.a. Tony Hendrik) and Junior Torello (Karin Hartmann-Eisenblätter a.k.a. Karin van Haaren) of Coconut Records in Cologne. The song is recognizable by its refrain "What is love? Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me...no more." "What Is Love" peaked at number two in the United Kingdom and Germany and hit number one in 13 other countries. Debuting at number 87 on 28 August 1993, the song reached number 11 on the Hot 100 in the United States. The song also peaked at number 12 in Australia. By March 1994, worldwide sales of "What Is Love" had already reached 2.6 million.

Top 10 Female Power Rangers!

Following up from yesterday's list (click here to read the list), here is my top 10 list of Female Power Rangers!

RULES OF THE LIST: ONE RANGER PER SEASON! Those who can morph but do not have ranger in their name are not on the list. 

With that said and done time to go back to action!

10: Mystic Force Blue

Madison is the compassionate and kind hearted member of the Mystic Force group.Madison is shy and not very open, however, she has helped many people. Also, she refers herself as the "sister with the common sense", in contrast to her sister V's hotheaded behaviour. Madison is the second female to be a Blue Power Ranger. I liked Maddie and i am like her in a way having same kind of personality being shy and kept to myself. She is a great character and has many great moments in the series. 

9: SPD Yellow

Z spent most of her life living on the streets - helping the homeless by stealing from those more fortunate. Z is the first female Yellow Ranger with a legitimate female Sentai counterpart, but not to have a skirt with her ranger suit. Previous six chosen female Yellow Rangers each didn't have a skirt with their ranger suit due to having male Sentai counterparts. Z can also create clones of herself. She is an interesting character who starts off in the series seemingly bad but ends up being nice and funny and inspiring. When Z was only 12, she was ridiculed for her genetic abilities and was once saved by a mysterious person in the shadows. The person turned out to be none other than Commander Cruger. This inspired a desire to protect others.

8: Wild Force Yellow

Before the wild force team had a red ranger their leader was Taylor the yellow wild force ranger making her the first Yellow Ranger to do so. Taylor is the second Ranger leader to lose leadership of her team without retiring first. The first was Jason Lee Scott the original Red Ranger. She was the Second Ranger to be a pilot before becoming a Power Ranger, after Joel Rawlings and before Scott Truman. She is the first and only female Second-in-command Ranger. Taylor is the first female ranger to have a sword as her personal specialised weapon. Taylor was not likeable at first being hard and demanding team leader but she slowly eased out of that and showed her true side, she is a tough no nonsense power ranger. She retired at the end of the season as a ranger and went back to flight school where she teaches new people and has so many people look up to her for her flight career and ranger career. A very tough respectable woman.

7: Ninja Storm Blue

Tori Hanson is the Blue Wind Ranger and is the first female Blue Power Ranger, in show history. I remember some people i know being like "what a girl is a blue ranger? a girl is a boy colour?" i remember just saying to those friends "its just a colour lets see what she is like before you judge." and my how those same people told me after a few episodes "i like her you were right" i was like i told you so....anyway....Tori is the logical and sensible member of the Ninja Rangers and a tomboy. She can be charmed by her teammates and loyal to her friends, but sticks up for Cam when her fellow Rangers pick on him and has an innate skill for ending conflicts with words instead of fists. Tori has an affinity for water, surfing in her spare time and mastering water based fighting techniques while training at the Wind Ninja Academy. The two-part episode Shane's Karma takes place on Tori's birthday, and the cake that Dustin is holding at the end of the second episode has eighteen candles on it. This makes Tori one of the few Rangers whose age is stated in any way, directly or indirectly. A great ranger and character she is. 

6: Light Speed Pink

A paramedic and pink power ranger as if you could not tell already what an asset Dana is to the lightspeed rescue team. Dana is serious, intellectual, caring and level-headed. She gathers the team together from all over Mariner Bay, and is a valuable asset to the team as one of the Rangers. Dana has a very brief stint as a model, but she resigns when it starts to interfere in her Ranger duties. Dana is the first Pink Ranger to break the tradition of having a name that begins with a "K-" sound. Another great memorable ranger and character.

5: In Space Pink

Cassie is the only Pink Ranger of the Zordon Era to not have her name begin with a K funny enough. I really liked Cassie she was a very interesting character. Her weapon satellite stunner was cool i also thought. Overall i enjoyed her character and her contribution to the story. 

4: Lost Galaxy Yellow

I really liked Maya and Kendrix but i will have to pick Maya over Kendrix. Maya has the ability to understand and talk with the Galactabeasts and the world around her. On occasion, she's received clairvoyant dreams or feelings concerning the Lights of Orion, Mike, Kendrix and Trakeena's rise to power after the death of Scorpius. She's also a skilled fighter and her fighting style is wild and she is unwilling to give up the fight. So this is what makes Maya a really good ranger and character.

3: Dino Thunder Yellow

First off she is a good singer and her power of the Ptera scream is deafening. A determined individual Kira is much like a combination of Trini and Kimberly the original female rangers. Kira shared screen time with more Rangers than any other female Ranger in Power Rangers history, with a total of 28 (the other four Dino Thunder Rangers, six Ninja Storm Rangers, nine S.P.D. Rangers, including Kat Manx, Adam Park, Xander Bly, and six Overdrive Rangers). Kira is the only Ranger to fight with two veteran rangers. In this case, Tommy Oliver and Adam Park, both of which were on the same team at one point in time.  She is the first Yellow Ranger to return to another season on her own, without her original team members. All Yellow Rangers before Kira have either returned for teamups or were never seen again. Kira is the first female Yellow Ranger in a skirt since Ashley (since the previous four females were all based on male Sentai characters). She is a strong female character liked by all. 

2: Time Force Pink

Jen was the second female Ranger to serve as a team leader (the first being Delphine), and the first (and currently only) Pink Ranger to serve as a team leader. However Kimberly Ann Hart counts somewhat if one has seen the Wild West Rangers multiparter, as she serves as the leader of that particular group of Rangers for one episode only. One of the best pink's easy. I also met the actress who played Jen Scotts in London, Erin Cahill is a very lovely person. I think Jen was a great female character and who's story was really gripping to watch as she was dealing with a love triangle and being a leader and losing her boyfriend and with time differences in being in the past. Easily a fan fave too.

1: MMPR Pink - Kimberly

The first and the best,the 90s crush, the fan favourite. Kimberly was everything for us 90s kids haha. She was a capable gymnast and would later show that she also has some musical and artistic talent. Kimberly coined the phrase "Morphinominal!", which has been used in many Power Ranger shows since the character's departure from the series.Kimberly, along with Tommy, Billy, Adam, Rocky and Jason are the only Rangers to appear in more than 100 episodes. Kimberly is the only female to reach this amount.All these feats and her amazing character and story make her number one for me.
