Top 10 Queen Songs (Plus Bohemian Rhapsody Film Review!)

How in the hell have I not done a list on Queen?
I thought I had but I could not find one.

I recently seen the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and i thought it was brilliant and i wanted more because the film could not fit everything in of course it fitted in mostly the highs and lows of Queen and Freddie leading up to Live Aid basically and overall i'd give it a 8/10.

Anyway, Queen are one of my all time fave bands perhaps my all time fave guitarist is Brian May and vocalist is Freddie Mercury. I got into the band at a young age from my Dad as he is a big queen fan.
While this list will list the one's i love best and any interesting facts or maybe the meaning behind the songs I will do my best to bring something interesting to you aswell as the songs in question.

10: Don't Stop Me Now - Kicking off the list is this momentum bringer. It’s high energy and the singsong element of, “Don’t stop me now” is so catchy it’s almost impossible not to bob your head to it. It feels like the song races along, and Mercury races along, but it never gets going too fast. Most common interpretation of this song is about life and sex and the lyrics go to show that and that it's all about having a good time.

9: I Want To Break Free - Of course first time I seen the music video as a kid i found it weird and funny and the song was catchy and damn awesome. I suppose the song is about being yourself breaking free from your shackles that keep you down and enabling you to break free and how you are expressing how you want to break free at that.

8: You're My Best Friend - Alright so this list was hard to put together because i love Queen and they have so  many amazing songs. Deacon wrote this beautiful song for his new wife, but it’s Mercury’s voice that makes it so resonant. It’s a perfect match of material and performer. It’s a wonderfully bright pop rock song. It's a really loving uplifting song both lyrically and musically.

7: Killer Queen - Freddie went on record to say this is about a high society call girl. This is a song with the words “gunpowder, gelatine, dynamite with a laser beam” in the chorus. Mercury’s sonorous, high-pitched voice sells it all, though.

6: We Will Rock You - If you only know one Queen song (and the odds are very low you only know one Queen song), it’s probably “We Will Rock You.” Just two minutes long, it’s mostly all “boom, boom, clap” with a few May guitar licks thrown in. However, that simple beat is so insanely catchy that the song has become legend.

5: Under Pressure - This is a song that has both Freddie Mercury and David Bowie on it. How could it fail to be anything other than great? We are all under pressure but we must give love to each other to help one another out and release our pressures.

4: Another One Bites The Dust - Catchy and damn funky and that bass line is top notch! I see the song as being about this Steve who is on a rampage. Simply straight forward.

3: Radio Gaga - A song who's message displays how we don't focus on the music anymore we just rather view their videos. Catchy song about man vs machine more or less but another fact Lady Gaga got her name from this song because it's one of her faves.

2: We Are The Champions - This is one of Queen’s two unbeatable sports anthems, although “We Are the Champions” can only be used in pretty specific situations. While it leans itself to sports so well, “We Are the Champions” is just a song of triumph that should get you amped regardless of the circumstances. Funnily, it’s partially a ballad, but then the chorus swells and you feel like you can run through a wall. That’s the power of music. That’s the power of Mercury’s voice.

1: Bohemian Rhapsody - Oh i'm sorry did you expect a different number one? It's difficult to analyse a song who's writer refused to analyse it himself. The band doesn't even know the true meaning, to this day. It is claimed to be just a tongue in cheek mock opera- just for fun. There are countless theories and people said this song sucks, it wont be a hit, it's too long, too pretentious, etc etc but look at the impact the song had and still has to this day it's one of the most iconic and influential songs in all of music history.

Go see Bohemian Rhapsody and let me know your thoughts on it and on this list! :)

Stay a killer queen!
