Machine Head - Of Kingdom & Crown Album Review!

THEY'RE BACK!
Machine Head are back with their 10th studio album, Of Kingdom And Crown. The album arrived on August 26th.

Flynn said that this album is very much a concept album set in a decimated futuristic wasteland where the sky is blood-red, following two main characters Ares and Eros. Flynn also added that a lot of inspiration for this album comes from the popular anime Attack On Titan.

Now, when I heard this, I got super hyped because 1: I love Machine Head and 2: I love Attack On Titan. This is not The BLACKENING PART 2, This is its own deity. I have listened to this album twice in full, and I love it.

A strong return to form, from the mighty Machine Fuckin' Head!
Robb Flynn I feel hit new levels to his vocals and this album is a showcase of his range. Production wise, this is 10/10. It's solid lyrically and instrumentally too. It's a shame some magic feels like it's been taken away due to the exposure to some songs which were previously released on an e.p.

THE TRACKLIST:
1. SLAUGHTER THE MARTYR
2. CHØKE ØN THE ASHES ØF YØUR HATE
3. BECØME THE FIRESTØRM
4. ØVERDØSE
5. MY HANDS ARE EMPTY
6. UNHALLØWED
7. ASSIMILATE
8. KILL THY ENEMIES
9. NØ GØDS, NØ MASTERS
10. BLØØDSHØT
11. RØTTEN

8/10

Machine Head - Arrows In Words From The Sky E.P. Review

Machine head are one of my fave bands and I have had the honour of meeting before and they are such lovely tidy down to earth Guys. Their music speaks volumes and dives into so many emotions and feelings and events. I love and appreciate their musical talents so much! So they recently dropped a 3 track e.p. and they have posted sneak peaks into the making of the album and the hype I had was immeasurable and HERE WE ARE!!!!

Detailing the dark place this material came from, frontman Robb Flynn explained to Kerrang magazine: “The lyrics to these songs took to me places inside I didn’t want to go, from the bile and negativity on Rotten, to nothing-will-beat-me-down fury of Become The Firestorm, to the title-track Arrows… being one of the saddest songs I’ve ever written, yet somehow has the power to lift me up out of what was a very dark time in my life. “My hope is that by sharing these dark experiences with the Head Cases of the world, it can save someone else out of that same dark place,” he says.

BECOME THE FIRESTORM - Blast beats in a Machine Head song... honestly didn't expect that. I like it. This song is a whole lotta anger and frustration to me it feels very like reflective of the apocalyptic times of 2020 but that's my take on my feeling for the song.

ROTTEN - This one is going to be BANGIN' live, i swear down this is going to be such a fucking anthem to hear live. It's groovy and chunky as fuck! "I stare into the black, Anxiety attack, My heart is racing as my throat's constricting, With every cut and scrape, My skin it palpitates, Lying awake, I feel the terror grip me" - I love that verse, i really feel it.

ARROWS IN WORDS FROM THE SKY - Lot of emotion here, it's a great little flowing ballad. I really feel this song and connect and sing it alot since the release of the song.

I wish this E.P. was a full album because with material like this, it could be a contender for top tier MH albums. What a fucking 3 track album this is!

I NEED A PHYSICAL RELEASE OF THIS ALBUM!!!!

MACHINE Fucking, Fucking, Fucking HEAD!

Fuck! What a gig three times I have seen these incredible metal giants and that's why there's three F's between Machine and Head because it was fucking....fucking.....fucking......HOSTILE!
Start of the night and a low light photo.
So let's start the day, I get up, I can't come down, the room is spinning round and round and that's Abracadabra but seriously Mr Blue Sky was out in force and it was fucking scorchio. I went on the train and I was all by myself first gig I went alone, well I was not alone I met friend I don't see much of the beast that is Lloyd Newman. We chilled out caught up queued in line outside The Great Hall in Cardiff and waited for the Imperium to let loose.

Met this guy down there who had his appendix out recently called Sam became friends with him, he's a tidy guy so shoutout to him! Met some random people too and drunks that were fist bumping me and Lloyd and they were hugging us and even offering us stuff and we declined everything besides the fist bumps of course because, i'm a reasonable party square who don't need no booze or other things to party. I had the one beer it was rank not had that "Best Larger In The World" in god know how long but i pretty much sweated it out end of the night haha I was a big pile of sweat as ever from a MH gig.
End of night stage photo.
From the moment MH came on and the pit was about to start for Imperium Lloyd looked at me yelled "PITTTTTTT" and that was the last time i ever saw Lloyd, it was a midsummer's day and I, Morgan Freeman narrated such a tale of the boy who went missing inside the circle pit. Haha but don't worry Lloyd was fine got home safe and was only left bruised from the pit but he will recover!

I was pretty much front row by barricade all night UP UNTIL the last two songs because I felt like i was gonna pass out, I could not breath and i was so dehydrated. I was also pissed off from being squashed, punched and having bodies land on my head that i needed a drink or i for sure was gonna pass out so i spent an extortion amount of money on a bottle of water and i downed it in 0.2.6.1.555.666 seconds of having it, which in layman's terms is a fraction of a nanosecond i believe but i'm making that shit up i don't know how fast i downed it but it was fast.
There i lay on the floor for old and first time ever at a gig i spewed on the floor, i needed a break, so i was on my knees until the middle of Halo where i then stood back up and sang along and worked my way back to the center before the song ended sadly did not get back to my spot or get a pic or drum stick from the guys but hey 2 years ago i met them i don't give a fuck haha I would have loved to have won the MVR shirt but ah well. I left the building 11am and awaited a pick up from my dad, the legend that he is. Got back to Aberdare and went for a mcdonalds because MAN was i hungry and thirsty!
Only pic I took of the band while they were playing.
It was the roughest gig i have been to to be honest wont lie. The basic highlights are: Could not breathe but I survived up until last two songs and then I was like I can't do this anymore and went to the bar to get drink and just spewed on the floor while I was resting. I have not been that bad ever at a gig. So many fucking people landed on my head. This couple was chatting with me and Lloyd for ages and soon as machine head came on i gave them a boost up and chucked em over barricade haha. Met this guy who had his appendix out he added me on fb Sam and he's tidy. Accidentally punched this guy aswell haha Robb was like hey and do your fists and I did it and boom I was like oh fuck I slowed it down then. Killer set from MH as ever they do not disappoint!

Random Ramblin's 35 - Rising From The Ashes

Ya miss me? Be honest, no? I thought as much.

Anyway, hello, I hope you are well! It's been a while since i did a RR there was supposed to be a podcast but only one got recorded and i may edit and post it as a test see how many tune into it on youtube but we will see what happens with that and with youtube and other stuff.

So my metallic nation what's new?

Life's well you know, going by alright, I have been quiet because of work and then i go to the gym almost everyday so i'm working out, improving myself lost a stone last month and i know it's not much but hey it's not about that its about me putting the work in to improve myself and i am doing a lot you know this keeps me busy and keeps any blues away.

I have cut down on my eating habits and i eat half the calorie intake recommended and i can lift double the weights i could before i started in the gym. I do hour and a half in the gym to two hours and burn up to 300 cals total with each session. I know again to some or to most reading this you will tip your heads up and smirk or scoff but i'm here putting the work in, haters will hate and that's just great as your entitled to say to think what you like it wont bring me down with you, it'll push me further is all.
MOVIES
First film of the year in cinema i seen is Coco and it's alright, darkest disney pixar film ever and it has themes which do connect strongly with me and 2 songs which were lovely.

Downsizing was pretty good.

I watched Greatest Showman and is amazing!

Winchester was ok.

Cloverfield Paradox - Predictable but I liked it and the ending was just ohhh boy I can't say anything else.

Superbowl Movie Trailers Thoughts.

Solo - Looks alright, not really excited for it.

Skyscraper - Looks like die hard but with Rock as an amputee does look good though.
MI: Fallout - Looks ok I guess, Cavil has me interested but probably be best to watch when it's out on dvd.

Jurassic World 2: Not interested but I'll probably end up watching it at some point.

Infinity War - Interesting stuff probably be good, looking forward to it.

MUSIC
Greatest Showman soundtrack is lit!

Machine Head - Catharsis Album - 7 tracks i enjoyed are heavy lies the crown, triple beam, volatile, beyond the pale, hope begets hope, screaming at the sun and behind a mask.

I thought it was a good album, rest of the songs on the album i'm not fond on or can take more time to grow.

30STM - Dangerous Night - Another decent track from their new album yet to be released but im hoping the album is containing more of their bangers because walk on water and this are good but i want more, bigger, songs and more powerful ones at that, get one to connect with me.

Youtube
I have not made a video since last year, i know i have had a few vids out this year but they were made last year and scheduled this year. Why the absence? Been busy really my head has not been into youtube either and i know i have a ton of videos to put out and vids to make and unfinished projects to do but i have not had the time or mindset for it. My ad revenue is ending soon sad times.

Games
I have a lot to play and unfinished games haha.
Unrelated  but somehow related is the fact i suck at Fortnite haha.
Recently purchased fallout 4, last guardian, mafia 3 and dragon quest world tree woe and the blight below. Last guardian done my head in and so i switched to mafia and still playing it atm, its decent.

Finished Mafia 3 its a great game 8/10!

Now to finish...
So i made it into Gamesmaster Magazine again and a few friends have told me i should get into video game journalism ahaha really flatters me but thanks for all the support everyone. Here's the email i sent in which is a shorter version of this post - https://1stmetalgodsblog.blogspot.co.uk/2017/12/where-cheat-codes-at.html
Thanks for visiting my blog, thanks for viewing and all the support as ever, keep metal alive and stay shiny!

Top 10 Metal Songs!

What is up metallic nation?

Hope you are well and oiled ready to take your circuits for a spin in the mosh pit as today i am going to be listing my top 10 fave metal songs. This list was suggested by James Davie so a big shoutout and thanks to him.

What comes to mind when i say metal? Music? Actual metal? Aggressive vocals? Screeching guitars with amps turned up to 11? Long hair? All black clothing?

Well what ever it is, this list is all about the metal music that is guaranteed to get you reacting either by moshing or maybe saying "well not bad but this song should have been in here" whatever it maybe or hell you could leave a comment saying "keep port talbot steelworks open!" and that is still valid to say so yeah, no matter what pops to mind do comment below at anytime and read on and enjoy :)

RULES: One song per band....god i like to make my list's tough huh? lol.

Funny enough when i think of metal it's normally all of these on the list that pop to mind first of all. Will post my opinion of the song, a link to the song and facts about the song.

10: Breaking The Law - Judas Priest
Da da da da da da dada BREAKING THE LAW BREAKING THE LAW! At number 10 Judas rides in past the speed limit with this classic. You are guaranteed to know this from the starting riff and chorus and if you don't well you are BREAKING THE LAW, BREAKING THE LAW, BREAKING THE LAW! The lyrics tell of someone who gets tired of everything that comes with an ordinary life - that life has become boring. This leads the person to take a chance and start breaking the law. The song has left its mark in many places in popular culture. It was ranked #40 on VH1's 40 Greatest Metal songs list. Beavis and Butthead used to sing the song when they did something knowingly illegal. It's been used in some TV commercials, and in movies like Scarface: The World Is Yours. It's also appeared in The Simpsons.

9: Holy Diver - Dio
Another classic you are bound to know. If not for the Dio version then perhaps the Killswitch version. Both i love. Dio did it first however and it is a very iconic piece of music. Hmm mmm yeaah yeeah HOLY DIVAH! What is becoming of you? This song is about Satan, and his descent to Hell (his "dive"). The lyrics deal specifically with Revelations 12:9 where Satan was cast to the earth. The tiger is symbolic of the wild beast that comes out of the sea, as mentioned in Revelations 13:1. In June 2009, Dio told the NME: "'Holy Diver' is the metal tune that will not die. For some reason, that album and the song really hit a chord with people. Killswitch Engage did a version of it and I saw them do it at a festival recently where the reaction to their version was wonderful. But it's not something that gets resurrected every once in a while, it's just always there. I guess it's because good songs always work. What usually happens when people in bands meet me for the first time and they're fans is that they'll sing [adopts a self-mocking high pitched voice] 'Hoooly Diiiiiver' at me! It happens all the time and it's very touching."

8: Halo - Machine Head
Now many overlook this when it comes to best metal songs for me this one is a modern masterpiece. Such a great track. Rob Flynn says:"This is basically an anti-religion song, about the stuff that's been going on in America like them trying to make abortions illegal again. It's a halo over our demise". This is about how America, though supposedly a country of freedom, is still under the strangelhold of Christianity, as evidenced with the recent abortion debates. This song reflects exactly how I feel about religion and America - that society is still under it's grasp, no matter how progressive we claim to be. It's a sad, epic call for freedom from the chains of Christianity.

7: Before I Forget - Slipknot
For many metal fans this was one of the songs that got them into slipknot and metal too. Corey Taylor's lyrics are open to interpretation, which is how he likes it. This song deals with evolution and the nature of man. In 2006, this won a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. This was Slipknot's first Grammy - they were nominated for the award six years in a row before finally winning. The beeping at the end of the song is Morse code, which spells out the word "Slipknot." Slipknot rarely appear without their masks, but they do in this video, although only tight shots of their faces are seen.

6: Down with the Sickness - Disturbed
Everyone know's this for the iconic unforgettable primal vocals of Draiman. "OH WAH AH AH AH!" This is about how society treats people who are "different." A lot of people think they are "sick" and "wrong" and want nothing to do with them. In the middle of the song, David acts out a skit where he is being abused by his mother (not in the radio version). Finally, he builds up enough courage and hits her right back. This is used to symbolise how "mother society" abuses "her" children for not being the way "she" thinks they should. "She" keeps doing it until "her" children get sick of it and are so angry with her and themselves they go out and get revenge for it, most likely by killing the people that hurt them ("here it comes, get ready to die!") A good example of this would be the school shootings that go on around the country.

5: Walk - Pantera
One of my personal favourites and it kicks major ass bro so of course it is on this list. The main riff was written while the band was warming up for a show on guitarist Dimebag Darrell's practice amp when Phil Anselmo shouted, "We gotta write some s--t for this new album." Dime immediately started playing the opening riff, and Vinnie tapped the drums on the wall. They were filming for the home video and caught it all on tape to remember the riff. When Pantera first found success, they found their pals were treating them a little different as they thought the fame had gone to their heads. Frontman Phil Anselmo explained to Kerrang: "I wrote this when Pantera were first getting a lot of attention. I came back from touring and my friends had taken it upon themselves to think that I'd changed as a person into this big rockstar. 'Walk' was me telling them to shove that attitude up their ass."

4: Hallowed Be Thy Name - Iron Maiden
Here's an amazing piece of music. This song is about a man who is on death row and about to be executed, it is from the perspective of that man. Pure genius metal lyrics, incredible riffs, and the godly voice of Bruce Dickinson makes this song the greatest metal song of all time. It practically defines metal. I thank you Iron Maiden for creating this masterpiece.

3: One - Metallica
Such a tune! This song is about a soldier fighting in a war and a mortar blows off in his face. He can't hear, see, smell, taste and he doesn't have arms or legs. He comes out of a coma in a hospital. During the time he is in the hospital he reflects on his life and things his father told him. Eventually the doctors get worried because he's having spasms all the time, but he doesn't seem to be dying. They call in the general and he can't figure it out either but the soldier with the general recognise it. "Its Morse code," he says. The general asks what he is saying and the soldier looks for a minute and then says, "He is saying K-I-L-L- M-E over and over again. The lyrics are based on the novel Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo, which is about World War I. This was the first video Metallica made, and it expanded their fan base by giving them a presence on MTV.

2: Iron Man - Black Sabbath
Now come on everyone know's this one and this is here for so many good reasons of course. There’s a well-thumbed story that the Black Sabbath song Iron Manwas inspired by the Marvel Comics character of the same name. But it’s not true. Although Marvel had established that superhero in 1963, Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler, who wrote the lyrics for the iconic song, had never even heard of him in 1970. The idea for the song (which first appeared on the second Sabbath album, Paranoid, released in 1970), actually started with Ozzy Osbourne. Geezer - “I can’t exactly recall what Ozzy said, but it was something like: ‘Why don’t we do a song called Iron Man, or maybe Iron Bloke’. That got me thinking about a lump of metal, and then putting it all into a science-fiction context. It all flowed from there. The storyline – a self-fulfilment prophecy, mixed up with time travel – is actually quite complex. It’s about a man who goes into the future and witnesses the apocalypse. Going back to his own time, he encounters a rogue magnetic field, which turns him into a mute, steel creature. Unable to talk, he still tries to warn people about the impending end of the world, but is only mocked for his troubles. Angry and bitter, he eventually causes the devastation he’d warned everyone about. Ultimately the would-be hero becomes the villain."

1: Ace Of Spades - Motorhead
Everyone know's this one. You probably called this at number one too. Everyone from your dog to your great nana knows and likes this one. Ace of Spades’ is rated as one of the greatest rock and metal songs ever made and has seeped into popular culture, becoming the default music to represent anarchic mayhem on endless TV shows and movies. The gambling references are a metaphor for a hard-living, wreckless lifestyle; biking, drinking, drugs, fighting, etc. He knows that it will do him in eventually, that he'll eventually be dealt the "Ace of Spades" (the death card,) but that's the way he likes it; die with your boots on and all that. The "Ace Of Spades" is the dead man's hand, which was Wild Bill Hancock's hand as he was shot dead (he was an American sheriff who was killed during a game of poker). The hand consists of aces and eights, including the ace of spades.

Alright that completes my list. Remember this is just my thoughts on my personal fave top 10 metal songs and is not the true defining list of the top 10 metal songs.

Top 10 Machine Head songs.

What's up head cases?

You good?

Here's a list of my top 10 machine head songs. This was very tough to put together like any other list i have made quite frankly.

I have seen machine head twice and i have met the guys. They are legends!

LET'S GET IT STARTED!

Here we go at 10 we have this colossal mother fucker! Killer song live fair play. This kicks off Machine head's second studio album titled the more things change. If you want me to give a definition or opinion on what the music means i can not think right now of anything but hey its a good fucking song and does a song need some deep meaning? Let's move on.

What a fucking killer song. It opens the first album i ever listened to in full by machine head with their album Unto the locust. This song to me paints a perfect picture of the horsemen of the apocalypse coming down and causing much destruction. Also it does have little bits that make me think its about a female pyromaniac dealing with shit after a breakup and well shit happens shall we say.

Off the same album as the last this one is a very interesting. This one is all about life, about going through those tough times where the powers above so called religious beliefs do not work so we turn to our only other savior music. Music sets you free.

Ho shit it's that time.....time to let freedom ring! Coming straight in at 7 is Davidian from burn my eyes i would say it's the best track on the album. Davidian's most popular meaning has been this "a Davidian is a follower of David Koresh. Some psycho, charles manson wanna-be, who started a big religous cult back in the early 90s. And they killed a few of their own, and when police came to investiage, the Davidians fired on the police. Was a huge shoot-out and like 20 or 30 people died. It happened in Waco, Texas in 1993." I'm sure Davidian has other meanings, but that is probably the most popular one.

6: The blood,the sweat,the tears https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3dwciXMGp0
A song all about hard work pretty much from the burning red album this is my 6th place. It's a fucking awesome track!

The second song i ever heard from machine head believe it or not. It's fucking killer seriously killer!!!! Rage filled song symbolizing the breakdowns we can have and the dark times in life. Rob Flynn said in an interview before i believe in Metal Hammer:"This is one of the more personal songs on the album, and is basically about when I was much younger and fried on acid, really depressed and took a razorblade to my wrists. Something stopped me, but I don't know what."

Another one from the locust album because it's fucking epic man! The song is representing exodus you know that bible story it's one of the plagues. However Phil Demmel said this about the track at one interview: ""Locust", is a concept I came up with, based on a few people I have encountered in my life, just like everybody has. The type of person that just comes into your life under a different guise, under false pretenses, to befriend you, be your buddy, be your man, be on your team, or, you know, to be your lover or whatever. Their goal is just to soak up all your resources and just to drain you of all you've got, whatever you have to offer. Once they're discovered, they fly off into the next crop and drain that of everything. Yeah, it just feels like hell."

If you want to get me pumped up and lose my voice play this song. I know it word for word i have lost my voice multiple times singing this with my raw guttering power in my car on the way to work, on my way home from work,in work,in my house or at a machine head gig. I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH!!!! From the vocals, lyrics, drums, bass, guitar i love it all. There's a lot going on through this song death and torture among others play a big part in the song and video not to be the one to point out the obvious but there we go. ENJOY THE SONG!

Halo is a fucking masterpiece of music, one of the best songs machine head has and will play live. Rob Flynn said this: "This is basically an anti-religion song, about the stuff that's been going on in America like them trying to make abortions illegal again. It's a sad, epic call for freedom from the chains of Christianity."Also the track is the short music video version i have linked. THE FULL ONE IS SO MUCH BETTER! check it here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcibSVfwsYM

At number one is what i believe is the first ever machine head song i ever heard and loved. Dedicated to Dime. "Aesthetics Of Hate" is a response to William Grim, who wrote an article on his website, The Iconoclast, titled "AESTHETICS OF HATE: R.I.P. DIMEBAG ABBOTT, & GOOD RIDDANCE", attacking Dimebag Darrell the day he was murdered & attacking the metal community as a whole for paying homage and respect to the slain guitarist. To say that Flynn was angry at Grim is an understatement, but you can't blame him. Flynn looked up to Dimebag as countless metalheads did and continue to do so even in his death.

And like that. it's all done here.

That was my list, what are your top 10?

THANKS FOR READING!

ENJOY YOUR DAY!

Random Ramblin's 25 - March Smarch and some April O'Neill!

Hey you, you new? You look new....must be those glasses, oh you aint wearing glasses? Well sorry i can't see through a screen XD

Anyway. I hope you are well, i have been better i have had a mad controversial of sorts week to say the least like felt crappy and uneasy this week but more on that later. I thought i would tell you guys some stuff that has been occurring from my last visit to now.

Smarch March? Oh the title is nothing important to pay attention to but i had no other ideas for a title so yarp ya go.

I saw ICW live and it was insane! Best wrestling show i have seen live in person! Easter was nice i went bowling with Jared. Seen Jared a lot more lately which is good. Pain Quest 4 finished filming.

Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice. I didn't like it......I LOVED IT. Fucking Incredible film! The Cape crusader we needed for so long arrived. Loved it. Loved the others aswell. Defo watch it again. Bring me suicide squad aswell! I also removed pages and people due to them spoiling bats v supes.

Don't get Tesco at all. One week i could get "the meal deal" which is supposed to be £3 for £5 and the next i could get it for £3. Cashiers either have no clue what they are doing or only use of a clubcard will get you the meal deal. Weird as hell and it is doing my head in.

Eugene TWD bit off some guys dick. Had my first footie game in years was not too bad. My team lost but still. I watched Daredevil season 2 and it was good but also disappointing. I watched Jessica Jones and it was good. New TMNT film looks good. See the April reference now?!

Lots more went on and i will link you to them so follow the links to learn more.

So what has had me feel uneasy and not wanting to make videos lately and controversy i was on about ah well you know how people are and my new mindset has me cutting them out of my life. I am good to everyone until they are not good with me, of course everyone can not be on the same page but we can be in the same book if your cards are right. So basically a bunch of people have knocked me about the past week and brought me down so has some of my own actions. I deleted loads of things to keep others happy....I WAS WRONG TO.
