Ten Songs To Listen To This Halloween 2022

Today I will be bringing you a very special list of songs which you should listen to around the spooky season this year! The following songs feature content that will either be creepy, about monsters, demonic or something else.

Basically these songs fit the Halloween vibez, and I hope you enjoy them! :D

10: We Drink Your Blood - Powerwolf

A powerful metal song about Vampires drinking your blood, especially when the midnight sky is red. 

9: Bark At The Moon - Ozzy Osbourne

Ozzy is barking mad here as he tells the tale of what it is like being a Werewolf.

8: The Devil In I - Slipknot

Put your mind into the steps of a killer being taken to court after being caught and interrogated.

7: Medication For The Melancholy - Rob Zombie

Imagine the insanity of being hunted down by a drug field kill billy character and this is what I'd imagine be playing. There are many Rob Zombie songs set around monsters and killers and what not BUT I wanted to pick something lesser known than your Dragula's or Living Dead Girls or Superbeasts.

6: Faith - Ghost

He is all ears, he is all eyes, he is the one, and he's watching you fall. 

5: Fear Of The Dark - Iron Maiden

In the dark something is always there, someone is near. You may have a phobia, or you may be right and there is someone out there in the dark.

4: The American Nightmare - Ice Nine Kills

Ice Nine has done numerous songs and have devoted their gimmick these past few years to being a band all about killers and monsters. The American Nightmare is all about Freddy Kruger and the nightmare at elm st films. 

3: Hellraiser - Lemmy & Ozzy

Lemmy and Ozzy wrote and made their own version of this and of course came together for one too and I have to put this on the list. Hellraiser 1-3 are great films and this track is awesome! You solve the puzzle box and here I am. 

2: Night Of Long Knives - Machine Head

You won't see them come in the night, with these knives and bloodstains on their hands. They'll paint the walls and taste the blade with the night of long knives with Charles Manson in charge. 

1: The Night - Disturbed

What has come over you? What madness has taken hold, and why are you running away? This hits and I, for one, feel transformed, and I can imagine someone changing forms into a big lurking monster perhaps all due to the power of the night. There are lines in here to that make me think of Moon Knight, this guy changes by the night and becomes the vigilante who is the saviour in the night. 

So Vwhat did yew think of ma leeeest? (Dracula impression)

Do I need a brain or an extra limb? Are my song choices Howling at the moon?

Do I need to be bandaged up?

Top 10 Ghost Songs

As spooky month continues today...

I bring you a most scary ritual in the form of a Ghost (music band) list!

    

As you know, I am a massive fan of Ghost and Impera as of writing is still my ALBUM OF THE YEAR 2022.

I was talking to my good friend Zinfandel Steen who is one person many of you know from some mentions here or there or some YouTube videos from the past on my channel. Basically she's a bad-ass American lady who is a good friend of mine. Anyway, we were talking about Ghost, and she listed me her fave songs and I swear I made a Ghost list in the past, but I was mistaken and so today this Papa is going to give you a ritual of a lifetime with The Papa and his Nameless Ghouls. 

So if you are ready, come with me and prepare to be tickled internally.

10: Year Zero

Catchy and awesome, Hail Satan and all his awesome forms with this one. It's trending a lot lately with Tiktok as users are using the intro and pausing on footage or pics of their animals in a funny way.

9: Cirice

Ghost are notorious for having multiple layers in their songs and with this one it feels very much like the narrator who is a Priest is calling out a non-believer in the midsts of a service as they feel their presence amongst the rest, and they convince the person best they can to join this religious cult. Cirice is also an older English term for church so a bit of a fun fact for you. 

8: Faith

As we all know by now Ghost are pretty Satanic in content but again as I said earlier their songs are multi-layered and as with a lot of media, the listener decides what it means to them. Satan's MO is "do what thou whilst," he watches and hears everything you do. When you sin, you hit a wall, and Satan loves to watch you fall to him. This is one of my personal faves, and it's only quite recent that this song rose up for me and just sucked me into it.

7: Rats

    This is literally about the plague of course, but you could also interoperate it as being about organized religion and most likely with the government watching us. Ghost frontman Tobias said this about this track: "It's actually not technically about rodents. It's about something spreading as wildfire and completely destroying things quicker than you know. It was how the plague started in Europe. Not only that, but it was basically a couple of merchant ships that had been over in Crimea. A few of them sailed into the port of Messina in Sicily, and according to the legend, from the ship came rats, and they were carrying the fleas that had this bubonic plague. Almost everyone on the ship was dead and dying." You can't help but to sing along to this one and join in with the "WOah ahh" parts haha. Awesome song live and just the emphasis on the word "RATS" always has sinister intentions coming from the mouth of Papa.

6: Kaiserion

So much goes on with this song and to me, it feels like a big stage show production. A killer opening song for the album of the year IMPERA! The bands mastermind of many faces Tobias Forge was recently interviewed for a cover story newly published over at Kerrang!. In it, he discussed the inspiration for Kaisarion. "There was a building called Caesareum in ancient Alexandria. Roughly what happened was that the teacher and philosopher, Hypatia, was murdered by Christians. She was molested and murdered inside the building, because of her pagan beliefs, because she was a believer in science and real things. This was in the beginning stages of Christianity, when it was just an insane cult, before it got the mandate of a book put together by Romans in 325 to harness that shit. This was like an underground group of terrorists, basically, who couldn’t stand to see some female smart ass preaching or telling people that the world wasn’t flat. And it didn’t happen at the same time, but they also burned down the big library in Alexandria, which must have been an enormous, enormous loss for mankind in terms of knowledge and historic accounts. I think that’s a nice symbol for what you can see now. You can see likenesses of it in public book burnings and stoning and killing everything that doesn’t match with a sort of flat Earth reality that some people live in. Or storming the Capitol and wanting to hang people. It’s a symbol for those sorts of movements that are always targeting smartness and enlightenment, and thinking."

5: Life Eternal

The first time I heard this, it really struck a song with me and made me feel a bit sad, I'll be honest. It makes me think of mortality and two (dare I say) star-crossed lovers, dancing (literally or figuratively) one last time before they are separated or death takes them. I mean it's no secret the album Prequelle has a medieval theme, black plague type setting, and in those days you didn't live long, death could take you at any time, and you had to let go of people you loved too soon. It seems, to me at least, to be questioning whether a love can span beyond one physical lifetime.

4: Hunters Moon

This is GHOST and one of my all-time favourite songs!  It’s not your typical metal. It has elements of prog, hard rock, pop, punk, of so many different things that Forge has up his musical sleeve and that's what makes him and this band shine so many others and make them stand out with their mysterious story and characters too. 

3: Mary On A Cross

This has become a big trending viral hit song lately thanks again to the power of Tiktok. I never thought I would see this band trend so much thanks to Tiktok nor also mention Tiktok and Ghost in a single sentence yet here we are. Anyway there are again many layers to this some people like to use the song in a sexual manner because of Mary going down aha. I see that and I see you people hehe. This is a bop and so damn catchy. This also in terms of story telling from Ghost's lore, seems like this a confession from Papa Zero about how he still loves Sister Imperator despite her keeping him at a distance. I'm assuming due to the event in the Kiss the Go-Goat video where Papa kissed the fan while Sister watched from the balcony, they were either in a relationship and split, Papa wasn't ready to commit, or Sister was just a very jealous business partner who had a crush on him.

2: Dance Macabre

An absolute BANGER! A cunning good wordplay with Bewitch You in this one. Solid sound and catchy lyrics with just a phenomenal performance vocally from Papa and even more so live. The band's lead singer Tobias Forge said this about the song: "Europe was in this turmoil in the late 1340s, the plague is moving extremely fast. It starts off as the worst flu you've ever had, and then it just goes worse, and then you're dead after three days. So people were lying in the streets, corpses and all the surroundings were just falling apart. All the brothels and pubs were thriving because people started partying literally like there was no tomorrow because they were going to die. They were just going for it. "Dance Macabre" is capturing that joyous nocturnal sort of life in a disco song". 

1: Square Hammer

NUMBER 1 ON MY LIST IS THIS MEGA BANGER! This is the song that propelled me full time as a fan of Ghost as prior to this I liked one or two songs in passing. This was different, this was catchy, this stuck to me like glue and for me is a perfect song which balances everything perfect, gets stuck in your head and with you for a long time and makes you blast it on repeat! I was told that this one is very much Ghost delving into the clandestine underworld of Freemasonry and satirizing that establishment the same way they do to organized religions. Intelligent, fascinating, and a kick-ass song.

So my ghouls and ghoulettes, this has been my list and this soul of yours now belongs to Satan and that concludes my list. Please go see GHOST live if you get the chance and give them a lot of love, thanks.

Ghost Live in Birmingham April 15 2022 - Review

April 15th 2022
I am in the car and on my way to Birmingham with my best mate James Evans to go see the awesome band known as Ghost! I cannot wait! I cannot believe I am actually going to see them!!! I absolutely loved their new album and I love them!  

The Birmingham Resorts World Arena is where I am today at seating near the frickin stage with James to see Ghost, it's a massive beautiful building and it is slowly filling up as we all await to hear a night of great music. The bar charges me £7 for two 500ml bottles of Coke, I feel as if I have been robbed ahaha. 

Anyway here comes the first band Twin Temple. A very weird unique and pretty cool band I have never seen nor heard of before. They tell us all to raise our horns and to say "Hail Satan!" and we all do as you do because Satanism is not as bad as you think. This is a mad mix of music I have no idea what to think of Twin Temple, Satanic Ska Metal? Satanic female fronted Madness band basically. 

Time for a quick piss break before Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats come on and oh......it's super busy I cannot move yet get to a pisser, well I will hold it in and pee later....

Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats are here and they say they are going to ruin our night? Well they were fucking fantastic because it was very much Black Sabbath meets Rush. Doom slow heavy metal instrumentals with the higher vocal style of Rush. That is what they basically sounded like and I really enjoyed them, headbanged quite a bit to them actually. 

Oh here go the lights and a roar of the crowd deafens me for here come the clergy and the one and only Papa IV too! Pyro, confetti and, of course, some classy costume changes from Papa Emeritus IV, making his UK debut. Ghost have given us a party and what a hell of a party this is with a massive steller stacked setlist! Papa Nihil is here!!!! What a sax solo and like that he is gone again! When the fire works goes of it makes a hell of a deafening bang and when the fire goes off you can feel the heat from your seat and I cannot imagine how hot it must be on stage in all of Ghost's regalia when the fire balls hit! The Ghouls mess around whilst Papa has a quick costume change and we are met with Iron Man, god bless you Birmingham! Enter Sandman is played and it's the best most unique cover of this metal classic! Square Hammer is here to close this amazing set which has been nonstop and holy shit was this one of the best concerts I have ever been to.

Ghost - Impera (Album review) A Classic Masterpiece

Ghost are a band I have loved for a few years now but with the release of their 5th and newest album Impera, the Swedish rock band have become a massive love of mine. Impera released on 11 March 2022, it was produced by Klas Åhlund who also produced the band's 2015 album, Meliora and I have listened on repeat to it religiously since it came out! 

I cannot wait to see them live in Birmingham on April 15th 2022. This review is being written days before that gig and I will also post a gig review of Ghost soon as possible, there may be delays with this or the ghost gig review coming out here on my blog as I am having a tough time at the moment and as such I am having breaks off social media and with life in general. 

Thanks for your understanding so without further ado, let's get into the review!

The theme of Impera mainly focuses on "the rise and fall of empires" and of course the 20th century. The album received widespread critical acclaim. The release of Impera was preceded by three singles: the first, Hunter's Moon and it also appeared in Halloween Kills and is featured as part of the film's soundtrack; the second single, Call Me Little Sunshine, was released on 20 January 2022 and the third, Twenties, was released on 2 March 2022.

Tracklist:
Imperium - A killer soft catchy instrumental start that leads perfectly into the massively catchy and killer song of Kaisarion. 

Kaisarion - To me this feels like a big stage play song, it's a perfect opening song and it is also so catchy and it's got much like the rest of the album amazing instrumentals, lyrics, riffs and solos. 

Spillways - The piano and very 80's feel to to this track makes it feel familiar but new and brilliant all at the same time. 

Call me little sunshine - A wonderful infectiously catchy song which showcase Ghost basically and was the second track released prior to the album. 

Hunter's Moon - This is GHOST and one of my all time favourite songs!  It’s not your typical metal.  It has elements of prog, hard rock, pop, punk, of so many different things that Forge has up his musical sleeve and that's what makes him and this band shine so many others and make them stand out with their mysterious story and characters too. 

Watcher in the sky - A lot of these songs are so infectiously catchy both lyrically and instrumentally and if this one does not make you want to sing along then something must be wrong. 

Dominion - A great instrumental prelude to Twenties

Twenties - Possibly the most dark element of Ghost on this album is this song, I felt for a while this was a bit weak but I can't skip it, it's the roaring intro, the sinister feel to Papa here as he tells us the tale of the twenties and feels as if he is giving orders over the radio. I can't help but to sing along to the chorus however. 

Darkness at the heart of my love - Slow, loving, lovely and catchy this is Darkness's aim and goal as many of ghost's soft songs in the past have had this same feel, you could take it as a sweet romantic soft gesture or maybe a macabre one too. The snapping of the fingers make this even more special musically for me. 

Griftwood - What start's feels like a bit of Def Leppard but rest assured this song is Ghost's and it kicks ass with again I will repeat myself here a few times during the course of this album BUT IT'S SO CATCHY!!!! 

Bite of passage - Another slow sweet instrumental that leads perfectly into the last track which is.....

Respite on the spitalfields - Here we have the slow but lovely go home track to this stunning album, again you get hit with rocking instrumentals and catchy chorus's with sweet stunning instrumental riffs and solos which also make this song feel very much like a power ballad. As the song closes it feels like Papa is leaving the twenties with this album as he bids goodbye and walks away so it feels in the lyrics or possibly that he is running away with someone or the memory of someone too since "nothing ever lasts forever". It's a lovely piece. 

This album I absolutely love and respect honestly for me this is a Classic Masterpiece. It's hard to find albums where every song hits and this one is a gift that keeps on giving. 

I'd have to give this a 10/10

5 STARS easily!

Musical Artists To Watch In The Next Decade. (2020)

These following bands and artist's I have discovered over the past decade and i think they deserve more love and recognition and a bigger following because i love their music and some of these on the list i have only discovered recently but i have loved what i have heard from them so artists like Billy Eilish, Bad Wolves, Poppy, Wind Rose, Alien Weaponry, Grailknights they are recent to my hearing and seeing of them. Where as the rest i have heard and followed from the start of the 2010's to the middle of them.

I will just provide bit of info to these artist's and bands and leave you to look them up and give them a listen/follow on the socials. 

Sabaton

Sabaton is a Swedish heavy metal band from Falun. The band's main lyrical themes are based on war, historical battles, and acts of heroism—the name is a reference to a sabaton, knight's foot armour.

Poppy

Moriah Rose Pereira, known professionally as Poppy, is an American singer, songwriter, actress, fashion model, YouTuber, and religious leader. Her new album I Disagree is coming out on 10th January and its a post genre pop metal album which so far has been banging, highly recommend checking it out! 

Billie Eilish

American singer and songwriter. Born and raised in Highland Park, Los Angeles, Eilish began singing at a young age. She gained media attention in 2016, when she uploaded the song "Ocean Eyes" on SoundCloud, subsequently released by Darkroom and Interscope Records.

Ghost

Ghost, also formerly known as Ghost B.C. in the United States, is a Swedish rock band that was formed in Linköping, Sweden in 2006. In 2010, they released a 3-track demo followed by a 7" vinyl titled "Elizabeth", and later their debut full-length album Opus Eponymous.

Bad Wolves

Bad Wolves is an American heavy metal band formed in 2017. They are best known for their 2018 cover of The Cranberries' 1994 hit "Zombie". 

GloryHammer

Gloryhammer is an Anglo-Swiss symphonic power metal band founded by keyboardist Christopher Bowes, lead vocalist of the band Alestorm. Each member of the band represents a character in the story concept. The band appears on-stage in armour and costumes.

Powerwolf

Powerwolf is a German power metal band founded in 2003 in Saarbrücken by members of Red Aim. The band consists of vocalist Karsten Brill as "Attila Dorn", lead guitarist Benjamin Buss as "Matthew Greywolf", bassist/rhythm guitarist David Vogt as "Charles Greywolf", keyboardist Christian Jost as "Falk Maria Schlegel" and drummer Roel van Helden. The group uses dark themes and images, musically and lyrically, contrary to traditional power metal music, as well as corpse paint, gothic-tinged compositions and songs about Transylvanian werewolf and vampire legends.

Wind Rose

Wind Rose is an Italian heavy metal band founded in 2009 in Pisa, Tuscany. The band has released four studio albums, most recently Wintersaga in September 2019. Their lyrics take inspiration in the works of J. R. R. Tolkien.

Alien Weaponry

Alien Weaponry is a heavy metal band from Waipu, New Zealand, formed in 2010 by brothers Henry and Lewis de Jong. The band consists of Henry de Jong, Lewis de Jong, and Ethan Trembath. All three members have Māori ancestry and several of their songs are written in the Māori language.

Skillet

Skillet is an American Christian rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1996. The band currently consists of husband John and wife Korey Cooper along with Jen Ledger and Seth Morrison. The band has released ten albums, with two, Collide and Comatose, receiving Grammy nominations.

21 Pilots

Twenty One Pilots is an American musical duo from Columbus, Ohio. The band was formed in 2009 by lead vocalist Tyler Joseph along with Nick Thomas and Chris Salih, both of whom left in 2011. Since their departure, the line-up has consisted of Joseph and drummer Josh Dun.

Grailknights

Grailknights is a melodic death metal/power metal/viking metal band from Hanover. Their music is basically superhero metal, unique and cool. 

BabyMetal 

Babymetal are a Japanese kawaii metal band. The band consists of Suzuka Nakamoto as "Su-metal" and Moa Kikuchi as "Moametal". The band is produced by Kobametal from the Amuse talent agency.

So hit these people up on social media and all your streaming websites and support them and remember to support your local scene as every musician has started playing on streets in small pubs etc and they all move up with our support and bring us brilliant music.

Llancaiach Fawr As A Kid (a ghost story)

When i was younger, i went on a school trip, we were a crowd of 30 on a bus, we were headed to an old house, an ancient house, a house of such rich history, a house that has not been lived in for quite some time, it was a manor house, it was haunted.....

We got there at this historic beautiful Victorian manor, got off the bus one by one buddied up with our friends and were swiftly greeted by people dressed as people of the past and they took us under their wings for an educational tour of this great manor house....

one by one we walked through the rooms, the kitchen, the bathroom, the lounge, then made our way upstairs to the ladies bedroom first, there in the corner was a crib and it moved very slowly as the floor boards also creaked and squeaked.......

I pointed at it and yelled "look its moving on its own", my school chums and the Victorian dressed actors turned round and the crib stopped and the Victorian lord told us that famously this has been spotted to be moving at times rocking back and fore and no one knows why or how.....

There' no breeze, no wind, it just moves on its own at times rocking back and forth by its own means, we ventured to the next rooms like the master bed room, where i smelled a smell of burning, and oak like scent but nothing more......

The next room was the armoury where all us kids and teachers sat down on benches and were told the history there of said armoury and of swords and armours and chain mail that was made or held there, when we got up and lined up to go downstairs and out into the gardens, i lost balance somehow and fell and i almost went down the stairs...........

I was alright got up dusted it off and followed everyone else out to the gardens, i had goosebumps when in the gardens on the tour i looked up at the manor house, i seen a figure in the window of the master bedroom, a lady, i thought it was one of the actors, but i never really knew the truth behind that one.......

I never had any real explanations of what i seen or felt that day and they still have me curious even to this day.........

SHORT SCARY HALLOWEEN STORIES

So as a special extra Halloween themed post I have decided to pick out a couple of short scary stories from google and share them here, so sit back get your flashlight ready and prepare to be scared...MUAHAHAHAHAH!

1: Submitted via Reddit by Scoopwhoop: “When my sister Betsy and I were kids, our family lived for awhile in a charming old farmhouse. We loved exploring its dusty corners and climbing the apple tree in the backyard. But our favourite thing was the ghost. We called her Mother, because she seemed so kind and nurturing. Some mornings Betsy and I would wake up, and on each of our nightstands, we’d find a cup that hadn’t been there the night before. Mother had left them there, worried that we’d get thirsty during the night. She just wanted to take care of us. Among the homes’ original furnishings was an antique wooden chair which we kept against the back wall of the living room. Whenever we were preoccupied, watching TV or playing a game, Mother would inch that chair forward, across the room, toward us. Sometimes she’d manage to move it all the way to the centre of the room. We always felt sad putting it back against the wall. Mother just wanted to be near us. Years later, long after we’d moved out, I found an old newspaper article about the farmhouse’s original occupant, a widow. She’d murdered her two children by giving them each a cup of poisoned milk before bed. Then she hung herself. The article included a photo of the farmhouse’s living room, with a woman’s body hanging from a beam. Beneath her, knocked over, was that old wooden chair, placed exactly in the center of the room.”

2: THE RUSSIAN SLEEP EXPERIMENT: IN THE 1940s, a group of Russian researchers sealed five prison inmates in an airtight chamber. The prisoners were dosed with an experimental gas that would prevent them from sleeping. Their conversations were electronically monitored, and their behaviour was observed through secret two-way mirrors. For the first few days, everything seemed fine. But after the fifth day, they slowly began to exhibit signs of stress. They became paranoid and stopped talking to one another, whispering about each other into the microphones. Nine days in, the screaming began. Two of the sleepless prisoners just started running around the chamber, yelling so hard their vocal chords nearly broke. Suddenly, however, the voices stopped, and the chamber became dead quiet. Fearing the worst, the researchers announced that they were opening the chamber. But a voice from inside answered: “We no longer want to be freed.” On the fifteenth day, the stimulant gas was replaced by fresh air. The results were chaotic. One inmate was dead. The inmates had been severely mutilated, flesh torn off their bodies and stuffed into the floor drain. They seemed to have ripped open their own abdomens, and even eaten their own flesh. They refused to leave by force, fighting back with a powerful aggression none of the researchers could have imagined they possessed. They fought furiously against being removed and anaesthetised; one even tore his own muscles and ripped his bones apart during the struggle. When asked why they had mutilated themselves, each gave the exact same answer: “I must remain awake.” The researchers wanted to kill the prisoners and remove all traces of the experiment, but their commanding officer demanded it be resumed immediately, with the researchers joining the inmates in the sealed chamber. Horrified, the chief researcher shot him point blank. He then shot and killed the two last surviving subjects, and set about covering up all that had taken place.

3: This short ghost story, found on Reddit, is super creepy: “Mommy told me never to go in the basement, but I wanted to see what was making that noise. It kind of sounded like a puppy, and I wanted to see the puppy, so I opened the basement door and tiptoed down a bit. I didn’t see a puppy, and then Mommy yanked me out of the basement and yelled at me. Mommy had never yelled at me before, and it made me sad and I cried. Then Mommy told me never to go into the basement again, and she gave me a cookie. That made me feel better, so I didn’t ask her why the boy in the basement was making noises like a puppy, or why he had no hands or feet.”

4: A young girl named Lisa often had to spend time alone at home at night, as her parents worked late. They bought her a dog to keep her company and protect her. One night Lisa was awakened by a dripping sound. She got up and went to the kitchen to make sure the tap was off. As she was getting back into the bed she stuck her hand under the bed, and the dog licked it. The dripping sound continued, so she went to the bathroom and made sure the tap was turned off there, too. She went back to her bedroom and stuck her hand under the bed, and the dog licked it again. But the dripping continued, so she went outside and turned off all the faucets out there. She came back to bed, stuck her hand under it, and the dog licked it again. The dripping continued: drip, drip, drip. This time she listened and located the source of the dripping—it was coming from her closet! She opened the closet door, and there found her poor dog hanging upside down with its neck cut. Written on the inside of the cupboard was, "Humans can lick, too!"

5: A young boy is sleeping in his bed on a usual night. He hears footsteps outside his door, and peeks out of his eyes to see what is happening. His door swings open quietly to reveal a murderer carrying the corpses of his parents. After silently propping them up on a chair, he writes something on the wall in the blood of the dead bodies. He then hides under the childs bed. The child is scared beyond belief. He can’t read the writing on the wall and he knows the man is under his bed. Like any child, he pretends that he slept through the whole thing and hasn’t awoken yet. He lays still as the bodies, quietly hearing the breathes from under his bed. An hour passes, and his eyes are adjusting more and more to the darkness. He tries to make out the words, but it’s a struggle. He gasps when he finally makes out the sentence. “I know you’re awake”. He feels something shift underneath his bed.
