Top 10 Facts About Android Phones

Did you know Android Operating System was developed by Google? If not welcome, I had no idea about that either, so let's dive in on facts about the Android Operating System!
10: Open Source
Android is an open-source operating system, meaning its source code is freely available to the public. This openness has contributed to its widespread adoption and development by various manufacturers.

9: Versions
Android has gone through numerous version updates, each named after a dessert or sweet. Notable versions include KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, Nougat, Oreo, Pie, and the more recent versions like Android 10, 11, and 12.

8: Security Features
Android employs various security features, including Google Play Protect, which scans apps for malware, and regular security updates. Users can also enable features like screen lock, biometric authentication, and device encryption.

7: Diverse Manufacturers
Android is used by a wide range of smartphone manufacturers, including Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Google (Pixel phones), LG, and many others. This diversity provides users with a broad selection of devices at different price points.

6: Multitasking
Android supports multitasking, allowing users to run multiple apps simultaneously, switch between them seamlessly, and use split-screen mode on certain devices.

5: Notification System
Android's notification system is highly regarded for its flexibility. Users can prioritize, expand, or dismiss notifications, and the system organizes them in a chronological and actionable manner. Android phones often come with Google Assistant, a virtual assistant that uses voice commands to perform tasks, answer questions, and control various functions on the device.

4: Linux Kernel
Android is built on a modified version of the Linux kernel. The Linux kernel serves as the foundation for the operating system, providing core system functionalities. One challenge often associated with Android is fragmentation. This refers to the variety of Android devices running different versions of the operating system. Manufacturers may customize the OS, and not all devices receive timely updates.

Android includes features and management tools for businesses, known as Android Enterprise. This allows organizations to deploy and manage Android devices in the workplace securely.

2: Daydream and Cardboard
Google has ventured into virtual reality with Daydream and Cardboard. Daydream is a virtual reality platform, while Cardboard is a simple and affordable virtual reality headset made of cardboard.

1: Android for IoT
Android has been adapted for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The Android Things platform is used for building smart devices, such as connected appliances, speakers, and cameras. Project Mainline allows critical updates to be delivered through the Google Play Store, reducing the reliance on full OS updates for certain security and privacy enhancements.

Android's flexibility, extensive app ecosystem, and the wide range of devices make it one of the most popular mobile operating systems globally. It powers not only smartphones but also tablets, smartwatches, TVs, and other smart devices. Users can customize many of its settings on different objects powered by Android systems, too.
